Default Good News For Michigan 6,917 New Jobs

Despite the bad news from General Motors, Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced Tuesday that jobs are coming to Michigan.

The Michigan Economic Growth Authority granted a state tax credit to 13 economic development projects in Michigan.

The 13 companies awarded the state tax credit are expected to generate $231 million in new investments and bring 6,917 new jobs to the state.

The metro Detroit cities that stand to benefit from the project include Detroit, Troy, Novi, Clawson, Auburn Hills, Huron Township, Gibraltar and Redford Township.

The following 13 companies were granted the state tax credits Tuesday by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority:

Gibbs Technologies Inc., which plans to set up a research and development office in Auburn Hills to work on an amphibious vehicle similar to a sports car that can be used on land and water.

ForeSee Results Inc., a company that uses online voice of customer data to help organizations. It plans to expand its business in Michigan and locate its new North American headquarters in southeast Michigan.

Evergreen Solar Inc., which plans to build a facility in Midland that will create materials for its solar power products.

Echo Global Logistics Inc., a Chicago-based IT logistics company that plans to open a new facility in Troy.

Harman Becker Automotive Systems Inc., which plans to consolidate its North American acoustic development group for high-end automotive audio and infotainment systems to a facility in Novi.

International Bancard Corp., a financial transaction service provider that plans to relocate from Royal Oak to a larger facility in Clawson.

MyInsuranceExpert.com, a financial planning and benefits service provider that plans to relocate and expand from Farmington Hills to Troy.

Technology Associates Inc., doing business as Ranal Inc., an engineering service provider that plans to expand its operations in Auburn Hills.

Steel Tool & Engineering Co., which manufactures precision component parts for military and commercial aircraft jet engines, plans to consolidate its Taylor and Wyandotte plants into a new facility in Gibraltar.

Michigan Institute of Aeronautics Inc., which runs aviation maintenance technician schools, plans to locate its Power Technology Institute focusing on alternative energy in Wayne County's Huron Township.

Attwood Corp., a marine parts and accessories supplier that plans to consolidate its plant in Lancaster, Texas, into an existing plant in Lowell.

Graphic Packaging International Inc., a paperboard packaging company that plans to expand its folding carton plant in Kalamazoo.

Perrigo Co., a global health care supplier of over-the-counter and prescription drugs that plans to expand its global headquarters in Allegan.

Not sure how they're counting "new" jobs but it appears there's a lot of "relocation" and "consolidating" going on. All I can hope is that there truly is that many NEW jobs being created instead of jobs being transferred from one area of MI to another.

I know that many manufactures on the east side are gearing up for a good 2 year run in the next few months. From the manufacturing side it has been very strong for last 3 months.

Hopefully it means an upturn for the HVAC-R trade as well. Got my fingers crossed for sure.

She wont get a pat on the back from me.. All she's doing is creating jobs that she lost to begin with and wont be caught up for a long time.

In other words, you dont wait until the tire falls off before you try and fix it... Its obvious the tire was wearing down long before it fell off..

Great to hear that these companies are bringing tax $$ and paychecks to citizens of Michigan. I am struggling to beleive that our governer had any compelling involvment in making this happen. And if providing tax incentives was her doing I find this hardly news worthy or warrants a pat on the back. She is a turd IMO and never has had the best interest of Michigans citizens in mind. Just anothe typical career polatician.
If she had any real sincere interest in Michigan she would have fired the criminal that is running the biggest city in our state. It take balls to create action and results, neither of which she has. I could go on with missed chances to make profound changes in Michigan but I have a job to keep.
