ESPN $$$ donated to anti-hunting organization
Very similar to what happened last month with the Meijer photo contest - ESPN and Don Cherry are planning on making a major contribution to the Human Society - the world's largest anti-hunting organization.
This donation by Mr. Cherry serves as a direct attack on all hunting and fishing activities of every North American, and should not be taken lightly.
Don Cherry and ESPN now stand to make a substantial donation that will be used against you, the hunter/fisherman.
Unfortunately, I haven't posted here enough to have the ability to post links - so you'll have to find it for yourself on ESPN's Hockey page.
"Cherry will donate his ESPN fee to the Humane Society."
Who is Don Cherry? (born 1934) is a Canadian Hockey commentator for the CBC. Cherry co-hosts the "Coach's Corner" intermission segment on the long running Canadian sports program Hockey Night In Canada. He is known for his outspoken manner, flamboyant dress, and staunch patriotism.
Not a photoshop - that is an actual picture of Don Cherry at a hockey game. In a fur hat, no less.
Actually, I don't think Don is a bad guy, per se. Just a bit misguided in his philanthropic desires.
From my view - any donation to an anti-hunting organization should not be condoned by "The Worldwide Leader In Sports," especially considering that their weekend programming consists of several hunting/fishing shows.
I hate the Humane Society.
If you're not too busy, maybe forward this post to a few other boards and email people. Cause a ruckus.

Did he mean the Humane Society of the United States or The Humane Society? There is a difference between the two. The HSUS is avowedly anti-hunting along with anti-a-lot-of-things dealing with animals and their leadership on several occassions has crossed the line of sanity.
The Humane Society is not necessarily anti-hunting, etc.

I don't know for sure - here's a copy of the full text:
Don Cherry is heading south of the border.
Cherry, a fixture on the CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada," will join ESPN's "SportsCenter" beginning Friday after Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers.
"Pairing Don Cherry and Barry Melrose will provide NHL fans with two of the most respected and opinionated voices in hockey today," Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president of production, said in a statement. "'SportsCenter' will be the place to turn for Stanley Cup analysis, debate and highlights."
Cherry will offer live postgame reports on-site during the conference finals, and he will join Melrose and ESPN's Steve Levy for pre- and postgame analysis during the Stanley Cup finals. Cherry will also appear on ESPNEWS and ESPN Radio and will continue his work for the CBC during the playoffs.
Cherry will donate his ESPN fee to the Humane Society.
Cherry coached the Boston Bruins in the 1970s, leading the team to the Stanley Cup finals twice, before ending his career after one season with the Colorado Rockies (1979-80). He spent many years playing professional hockey, mostly in the AHL, and played in one playoff game for the Bruins in 1955. He has worked for the CBC since 1980.

My guess is that it's a substantial fee, given Don Cherry's fame in NHL circles. As for the destination of this fee - I'm presuming that "The Humane Society" means HSUS. Anything falling under the penumbra of the local humane societies has a city as part of the name. i.e. "The Humane Society of New York."

Don't see anywhere in there that ESPN is donating anything. Cherry is taking what he is making and giving it to them, not ESPNs problem where it goes after they write the check. Like Whit1 said, there are a couple different kinds of humane society. Would kind of doubt ESPN would support an anti-hunting group, seeing that they air hunting shows on ESPN2

it's not ESPN, it's Don Cherry. That guy is and always has been a moron anyway. Just look him up and check out his wardrobe, we don't want someone like that on our side anyway.

The humane society? That rescues animals? Shouldn't you figure out what your talking about before causing a "ruckus".
I don't know many canadiens that are anti-hunting. I have a lot of Canadian family. Especially a hockey player.
What's wrong with donating your money to a society that rescues and rehabilitates pets in urban areas. I've gotten a dog from the Humane Society.
Do you know how much money the State of Michigan makes on hunting? The only thing we really face is:
1. Fees are going up. It's retroactive and is going to take a couple years, but it is happening now... You can thank Granholm for that. (A woman democrat, mind you)
2. Possibly a lead ban. Some states have done it, Loons are getting sick. you might not be able to get split shots or lead shotgun shells anymore.
The best thing you can do to preserve hunting is:
VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!
You should be more concerned with Obama getting in office than what Don Cherry does with his money.
