Well I made it the Ausable! We got there pretty late due to a beam and coke headache! Launched at the Whirlpool at 2pm and floated downriver to Three pipes. I wanted to go to the tressel but I wasn't sure how long it would take! In a nutshell we got skunked.
I was fishing with two very rookie steelheaders who were dead set on catching the "Walleyes" that were all over the place near the launch!!! After about an hour and 2000 smartarse comments by me we floated downriver(They were suckers! They wouldn't listen to me!!) Saw one fish that I swear was a laker!! It may have been a steelie but it sure had the markings of a laker. Saw that near three pipes.
Well that's about it! It was a cold but good day! had a lot of fun.

Well a friend of mine and I made it to the Au Sable this weekend as well and it was very COLD to say the least. We checked out some good looking spots but it wasnt meant to be. WE basically got skunked but it was fun nonetheless. We did however see a Mature Bald Eagle at the whirlpool launch and that in itself was spectacular. Cant wait to try it again, tight lines!!!

Do any of you guys ever fish the mouth? I have great sucsess durring all other months, just never fished in the winter. Seems like it is a magnet for all species, with a extra on the steel. Good luck

Yeah I have fished at the mouth, I'm not a big fan of fishing off a pier though. I'd rather fish upriver where te scenery is better and the water is more readable! + it is a lot easier to fish with fly gear uo there.
