Heading to the Ausable with my wife and kids tommorow night. All the rods are packed, and have some fresh vennison to prepare our thanksgiving dinner. Very emotional trip, as its the last time we get to stay at my folks place in Oscoda. Pah sold the house and is moving down here. May be the last trip for quite a while to my favorite river! Been going there for the last eighteen years now. Man am I going to miss that place Oh well, nothing stays the same, does it? Maybe some day I can afford a cottage there. Anyway, I'll post when I get back, although it doesn't look as if too many are interested in fishing right now.

Hey Erik, just talked to the Pizzaman, tons of whitefish at the mouth. Most guys are using spawn, but waxworms and bobber works better, when the pyramid fisherman allow it. Some steel in the lower stretches. Good luck at your dad's. Happy Turkey!

Can the river mouth be fished from shore (for the whitefish) or do you need a boat to fish this section? I have never fished the mouth. Is there a pier there?
Thanks
John

There's 2, one on the north and one on the south. For safety's sake, stay off the north wall. Every year, they fish people out of the water. Some don't make it home alive.

Well, I'm back. The river is still low, no surprise there. Didn't take the boat, and probably should have. Didn't catch a single steelhead. Managed two whitefish, and two suckers. Had what I think may have been a steelhead on friday eve, but wasn't on long enough to say. Heard a few rumers of people catching steel, but didn't catch anyone in the act. All in all, everyone I spoke with had the same thing to say. "The fishing is slow". The guy thats been taking the creel census down by the mouth of the river said they've been getting them here and there. You just have to be there when they are comming through. At any rate, my next trip will be to the west side!
