Fished the river again with no results! There were a lot more people out today than I've seen all year so far. Nobody that I saw caught anything but I heard they did really good Friday and Saturday. The water is up a quite a bit and most of the parking lots are in pretty rough shape.( I got stuck at two parking lots.)
I think I'm going to take a week or so off from fishing the Ausable, maybe I'll hit the Big M instead!
Oh yeah I saw a large school of whitefish holding behind the bank (15-20 of them) and they weren't hungry either!

Anytime you can go out and see a couple of bald eagles... it doesn't matter if you catch any fish.

You must have launched at the Whirlpool! Those Bald Eagles usually hang out in that area. seeing all of the ducks is pretty cool also! I might get a chance to head that way Sunday(But I doubt it with the way the gas prices are going) I might just save my Money for the following weekend (3,4,5) on the Manistee!!!!!

Hook, I am never worry about getting skunked while steelheading because like you say my turn is a coming! Steelhead are never easy to catch plus you just fished in high water while only a tiny portion of the fish are in the river! Hey when you do get into the fish get some pictures and post them!!

Hey Kingfisher 11, you are my new best friend!!!!!!
Just shoot me off an email and we'll see what we can come up with. I will be hitting the Big Man pretty frequently until the Ausable's run catches up, then it will be onto the smaller East side tribs when the pressure gets bad on the Ausable.
I'ts not really the gas money that I get concerned with, It's all the miles I pile onto my vehicle!!!
