Just a question
What is with people calling Walleyes Pickerel?
I'm always hearing about all the pickerel being caught in the Detroit River. Fish markets selling fresh Pickerel.
Where did this originate? My father-in-law calls them pickerel.
He claims he caught one( a walleye) that was tagged and sent the tag in to the DNR. They sent him a letter congratulating him on his Pickerel!!
What gives?
The only pickerel that I know of, (chain pickerel) is a member of the pike family not the perch family
