On a spinnerbait or buzzbait I believe it is known as a trailer hook. A single hook is attached thru the eye and trails behind the original hook. In other words you have two hooks one right behind the other.

A stinger hook would normally be placed on a jig and hooked to the end of the bait to hook a short hitting bite. Usually about 2-3 in. with a treble hook. Hope this helps.

I'd suggest buying hooks specifically designed and packaged as trailer hooks: I know Eagle Claw does this. Trailer hooks have a larger than normal eye, in order to slip past the barb on the main hook. Also, trailer hooks usually use a short piece of rubber or plastic tubing placed over the eye, and pierced by the main hook, as you put the trailer hook on. This holds the trailer straight out behind the lure, plus keeps it from falling off, if the line goes slack.
Some guys don't use the tubing, believing that they get a greater hookup percentage, by letting the hook swing freely.
If you want, you can also put a plastic grub on the trailer hook. I often do this, if I use a traler on a buzzbait, because it increases bouyency, which allows the buzzer to come to the surface faster, and stay on top with a slower retrieve. Also creates greater resistance (therefore more vibration) with both a buzzer and a spinnerbait.
Hope this helps,
Dave

You attach the Trailer Hook on a Buzzbait using some Latex Surgical Tubing. You cover the eye of the trailer hook with the tubing. This prohibits the trailer hook from coming off of the Buzzbait.
