Default Omer Sucker run on or over?

I was thinking of pulling my grandson out of kindergarten one day this week. We would spend the day going to the Omer sucker run then putz around some.Did it once when I was a kid. Remember the trip. Don`t remember specifics. Is it a night time thing?

I'm not completely sure but I think it's usually early April.

I was chatting with Omerjim on the campfire the other night. Someone asked him about it and if I remember correctly, he said they were "just starting". I'm sure when it gets into full swing, we'll hear about it.

Hi guys; The suckers are just starting, you don't have to worry about missing the run, because it should be good to exelent from now to the middle of May. Hitting the run is only critical if you want to use the 9'square lift nets. When the netters aren't getting fish ,
hook and line works well in the holes. Bits of sponge drifted like spawn work well when the fish are actively running, good old crawlers or worms work well all the time. Also the live bait may get you a plesant surprize or two! Get the kids out, it's easy fishing and usually the catching is great! Remember the "green ones" go back! Keep it legal to promote good habits with the young ones, and the DNR is allways well represented here.

Default Suckers

I was in Omer all weekend, fished it Saturday, and Sunday. Saturday we caught about 40 suckers or so, and on the first cast i made, i caught the largest walleye of my life. I trew it back, but not before we snaped a few pics. A while later my buddy caught a 5 pounder from the same hole. We slept outside in a tent, it was bitter. We moved away from town Sunday, only a few straglers though.

Hmmmm... simple way to describe this... Get in your car. Drive to the location farthest away from anything (at all) in michigan. Get out. You're in Omer. (Sorry OmerJim, couldn't resist!)

Arrow The REAL Directions to Omer

OutdoorKing, the easiest way to find where it is would probably be to go to www.mapquest.com and type in your source city, then Omer, MI as the destination. It'll not only give you a map, but precise directions as well. Very useful site all-around!

Ah Yes, I worked in Coldwater last year. Lets see, I69 north to Flint, I75 north to first Standish exit, M13 north about 7mi. to Omer. Thats a three hour trip.
Its's a little better than no-where, but not much!

I saw a few suckers in the upper river(Above the Pipelines) yesterday. I bet you will do fine below moffat bridge but I would wait for a warm up.
About those green ones....I have caught some of my biggest eyes in Omer as well..Never in season, but I bet at least one went over 13 pounds. the average is like 5. You'd be amazed what you would catch if you keep off the local bait(Foam) and put on a spawn sack or a fly.
Omerjim, when the suckers get thick in the lower let us know...I have a few friends that want to experience what it is like to bring in a fish with almost every drift.

Ok guys, when the suckers are hot and heavy I will be sure to post it here! I work road const. in the summer last year we were working on I69. I didn't get a chance to wet a line, but saw some interesting "flashes" in the Rogue where it crosses 69. Steelies up that far in the summer?
