Deckerville man injured in one-vehicle accident involving boat -- Tuesday, June 20 2006

A 48-year old Deckerville man was air lifted to Saginaw St. Mary's with a severe laceration to the head after the boat he was towing was ejected from the trailer and landed on the passenger side of his pickup truck Monday night around 7:30 P.M. Sandusky State Police Trooper Bethany Craig reports the accident occurred on Deckerville Road just west of State Road in Forester Township. The pickup truck towing the boat driven by the lone occupant, Glenn Behnke of Deckerville, was traveling west on Deckerville Road. Police say he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. The boat was ejected off the trailer and landed on the truck with the bow resting on the roof of the cab of the pickup. Behnke was transported by Sanilac EMS to a nearby location where he could be air lifted to Saginaw. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time. The accident is still under investigation and State Police were assisted at the scene by the Deckerville Fire Department.
