wind direction
I know in august we are looking for winds coming from northwest to bring in the bait, and cold water. What kind of winds are we lookin for now to bring in the right temp water. Or do we have to wait to july 4th for water temsp to max out.

Right now, it would be better for us to have no wind or little wind, along with these warmer temps, to allow the water to stratify. Northwest?? Sure you didn't mean Northeast??
E/NE blows the warm surface water to the west, which is replaced by upwelling cold water from the bottom, lowering the water temps nearshore, and (during the summer months) brings the bait and salmonoids closer to shore....in theory at least....
All these big blows of the last couple weeks have currents running all over the place. A friend of mine fished the Uecker last week out of Racine and he said the currents were incredibly strong over there. His surface speed and speed at the ball were significantly different....and it made for tough fishing if you didn't have speed at the ball.

You can use that current to your advantage. Find a school of kings and you can sit still in the water while your big cut bait flashers spin around right in the salmons face. That current sucks though when your trying to turn around while you have lead out, dipsys and 4 riggers with stackers. Thats just a nightmare, on top of that with 20 mph winds.

Several days of strong Easterly winds will do the trick. Same with a NW as it will blow the cold waters from the deep north down. It happened a couple times last year.
