Question for Boat "Getaway"
Hey Getaway, I've seen you post you reports on here and also have seen our boat up to Rogers City when we used to fish up there for kings in august (thing of the past now), but anyways I seen you had decals on your cooler of your boat name and I was wondering who you had do them and how much was it. The reason I ask is that we are also from Bay City and I figured you might have had it done here. Did you also have your boat done?
Anyone else in the Bay City area have any suggestions they are welcomed.....
Thanks

luckibuck14,
I had my cooler done by a screen printing shop that had a vinyl decal maker. He is now out of business. I will tell you that the decal lasted for about 3 good years on the cooler but was always in danger of peeling off. I ended up cutting out a stencil of the "Getaway" name, peeling off the vinyl decal and painting the name back on the cooler. A shot of clearcoat over the paint and its been awesome ever since.
If you are still interested in a vinyl decal, Klender Design in Bay City does a really nice job.

What boat do you fish on in Rogers?
Hopefully I can make it back up there in September for the tourney again. We missed it last year.
Take care,
Bob

luckibuck14,
I can do that for you. I've been producing the custom M-S decals and I've also done some vinyl decals for a couple other members boats. In fact, I just produced and applied the decals for my boat this past weekend. Here's a pic...
If you're interested just drop me a line and we can talk.
Take care,
John

Thanks guys for the info, I will do some calling around. Jpollman, I would rather not tow the boat to Rochester Hills if I don't have to with gas prices the way they are these days, no offence to you at all though.
Getaway, Our boat name is Back Forty, we used to fish Rogers City every fall for a week straight untill last year we moved our trip to Manistee because of the inconsistancy of Rogers. We used to have a bright yellow formula boat with 4 cannon downriggers, now we have a white sea ray with a brown stripe. We have seen you up to Rogers several times and also out on the bay walleying........when up to Rogers we were always surprized to see another guy from Bay City.

No problem luckibuck,
But if you feel you're capable of applying them I was thinking more along the lines of just producing the decals and mailing them to you. They're really not that hard to apply. If you think you'd like to do it that way I can do up some designs and email them to you for approval and then produce them and drop them in the mail. If you'd rather have someone cut and apply them for you then you're better off doing it locally.
Good luck
John

luckibuck14,
Since the fishing slowed down, we like to go west too. I miss Rogers. It used to be a phenominal fishery with awesome structure. Remember when the schools of alewives would show up and get pushed to the surface by feeding kings. That usually happened in the evenings just before dark. We would troll through them and sometimes get two fish on a single rod. One on the main line and one on the slider. Those were the days.
I'll be hitting the bay this week as soon as these storms slow down a bit. Me and lightening don't really get along... .
I remember that salmon rigged Formula. In fact, I think I have you on video out trolling the shelf. We probably stayed the same week in August that you did for a few years straight. Man we caught a ton of kings out there.
Give me a shout on the radio. I'll keep an eye out for your Sea Ray.

Getaway,
Yes, I do remember the schools of alewives so thick they'd make all your rigger rods shake when you went through them. I also remember trolling out in front of swan bay and it would be no big deal to see loads of kings porposing during labor day weekend. Oh and you got to love that dropoff off Adams Point, awesome structure. We landed a 30 pounder out of that port one year, might not ever see fish that big in huron anymore.....
That old yellow formula was a great boat, tons and tons of fish caught on that boat. I think the hour meter went around a few times on it. We sold it because the power trim/tilt was always giving us problems along with other electrical pains. A guy from reese bought it and now takes it on the bay every so once and a while for pleasure boating. Always waves on his way by our farm to the bay so it must still run good. It was a tough boat to get rid of that is for sure.

Let John (jpollman) make them for you and put them on yourself. You wont be sorry. He made some for my sportsman club, had them in my mailbox the next day and everybody loved them.

Oh my gosh, I guess I did but I missed it. I've gotten quite a few PM's over the past few days and I think I just hadn't opened yours yet. I'll get back with you this evening.
Sorry about that.
I'll take a look and reply in a little while,
Thanks!
John

Hi Tech redneck from this site designed our avatar and made vinyl decals of all different sizes. We did everything through E-mail and snail mail. The whole thing took 2 weeks and his price was VERY reasonable.
