There isn't a lot of walleye to be found although the population does seem to be growing. The lake is stuffed with Lakers and the average size keeps getting bigger, about 10+ pounds last year.Anybody ever jig for whites walleye or lakers on simcoe?
Yep worse year in the last 20 that I have been going usually 3-5 trips a year......After last year....no, I'll pass.
It certainly wasn't the best year for perch. They seem to be plentiful during first ice and by mid Jan. they were deep again. The best weeks were the last two of March when we still had 20 inches of ice.Yep worse year in the last 20 that I have been going usually 3-5 trips a year......
I will second that , its been changing drastically for the last 3 or 4 years. It seems that with the high numbers of Cisco, the perch have been non existent. The shiners are gone, now the fish have to resort to shrimp and crayfish. Very sad state of affairs......But might be the only game in town this year, if we don't get any weather!!!!Yep worse year in the last 20 that I have been going usually 3-5 trips a year......
Actually the shiners were so thick this year you couldn't see the ramp at the marinas. While bass fishing in the fall I ran across huge schools of big perch in 40 to 50 ft. It's true the cisco seem to be pushing them out of traditional areas and they are much deeper but they are there.I will second that , its been changing drastically for the last 3 or 4 years. Work came out today that Cisco will be open Jan. 1st.
We pulled a pile of big perch in 35-55 fow at the end of February last year when guys fishing shallow were having a very difficult time. 40mph winds, rain and slush made for hellish fishing but it was still great fun.Actually the shiners were so thick this year you couldn't see the ramp at the marinas.
