I was just given a 3 pc air flex supreme bamboo rod with metal tube and cloth rod bag,,,it looks in really good shape..can anyone tell me about it and what it may be worth? I think its from the 40's or 50's..thanks
From info I found, the rod was probably made by "Montague" for a company called Airex who was better known for making spin and casting rods. Comments that were made seemed to lead toward a middle of the road trade rod, making it about $20-25 in the late 40's. Basic value is only to you, if it is fishable go ahead and fish it. Check the ferules for tightness ( no click, when rod is flexed), and the strips for delamination ( separation, at the glue lines ). If you do find something like this wrong it can be fixed, however it is not worth the cost unless the rod has sentimental value for you. If nothing is wrong enjoy your new rod and DO NOT BECOME ADDICTED TO BAMBOO.
