Dawn on the Big M!
In preparation for next weeks-ADVANCED RIVER ETTIQUETTE exam, I thought I would share with you an excerpt from one of my favorite books. This is a portion of chapter one from THE FISH OF A COUPLE CASTS AND YANKS: An Ohio Angler Reflects on Michigan Salmon Fishing.
Enjoy!
Chapter One: Dawn on the Big Manistee
We hit the river just before sun up. There was a slight glow in the eastern sky and a mist was eerily rising from the water like a poltergeist that you see in so many of those movies. The air was cold and each twig on the ground snapped as we approached ever closer to the streambed. The cooler was sat on the edge of the water ever within reaching distance. The angry splash of a feisty Chinook and the synchronized popping of four cans of Rolling Rock Light joyously interrupted the calm bubbling of the stream. Another splash of a salmon had us scurrying for our rods! After taking a huge gulp of the frosty adult beverage, I gazed into the pink clouds of the rising sun. At last, I thought, the moment is here. After months of anticipation and the whole hour it took me to get rigged up, I took a long thoughtful look at my trusty companion: the yellow Eagle Claw hide penetrator strike king. Its worn blue handle reflected the many years of faithful service on this river and it felt good to hold it in my hand once again. As I had done so many times before, I rigged a razor sharp hook with the finest yarn that a salmon has ever laid eyes on! With trembling hands, finally…I spoke: "Well...we aren't going catch any just standing here! Hand me another cold one and let's go get them motherf-ers!"
Perhaps later, I’ll share my favorite chapter entitled: Beer, Broken Noses and Cletus ain’t payin’ no motherf-in’ Fine!

Hey swamp monster
How did you do last weekend? Thinking about going early saturday, unless i go to shoot a couple geese. Got my eye on a local flock again, but this time they are at the TAG. Well, next to the TAG anyway. Should be good for a couple of hunts before they wise up.
