There's an excellent chance that I'll be out there with bird shot and dogs on 11/14 too.

It's our woods too. Tough luck, I say.

I think somebody already did...
I wasn't planning on heading up next weekend... but I think I may have to... and redeem myself after this past weekend.

Hope everyone did well. I tried to hunt Saturday and almost died doing it. Been really sick. Thought I could get out for a light hunt but even that wasn't light enough. Spent the past day and a half in bed again and won't make it to work tomorrow. Hope the doc...I think we have a doctor in town?!?!?... well, hope someone clears me from h1n1. Sure would be happy if it is just a bad respiratory infection or something. Tried to hunt for an hour Saturday afternoon but the walk in and out of canyon wiped me out so much I had to lay down in my truck for a long time. I hope a bunch of guys post some pics so I can se something while I am bedridden.

Mike, I've had a respiratory infection going on since Oct 16. The good news is it's not H1N1, the bad news is I'm only sleeping a couple hours at a time before coughing fits wake me up. I've continued to hunt, which probably hasn't helped... You're probably doing the right thing by staying in bed.

I made it up for a few days.
Only having one weekend during the best month of the season is a bummer but whatcha gonna do? In my book it ends Friday the 13th, the woods will be filling up fast starting then.

I'll be hitting it hard the next several days before deer season. This is my favorite time to hunt grouse. The birds are alot more limited to what type of cover they can hide in. Food sources are alot more narrowed down as well. I know my Griff is ready. He had to miss the last week. Due to a foot enjury. Good luck folks.

I went out Sun. and man did I sweat! I couldn't believe I was sweating that hard in the middle of Nov. without long johns on.
Flushed 3 ruffs and missed a wide open staight away shot. You know, the kind of look that haunts your dreams for weeks to come. Man I want that shot back! I ended up with a bonus cottontail that jumped up after a long pause in some ideal looking cover.
Thats probably it for me until Dec.
Good Luck to all going for whitetails

I am blessed that I can work from anywhere that I can get an internet (or cell phone) connection. So, I got to spend a month and the last week was just as good--if not better than the first. The dogs were all on their game and it was a sad day for all when we pulled out. The only thing that made me think I was the tiniest bit glad to leave was all the trucks with dog boxes in town at the co-op. It was the most I had seen all month long (although I didn't spend much time in "town"). Maybe it was that was all along and I have read a lot of complaints about the numbers of hunters, but I never saw them! On my way east, then south I saw truck after truck with dog boxes. wow.
Now, it is time to head west for a bit of prairie hunting ... quite a change from the close-cover conditions of the Ruffed Grouse woods. I'm sure we'll manage, though.
It's just too bad that dang deer season has to come along and mess up a perfectly excellent upland bird season!

I am a Web site designer/developer. I'm am soooo blessed to do what I do and be able to make a living at it and at the same time able to get to the train and hunt the dogs on wild birds as much as humanly possible. It's all for the dogs
