Son Of A ...
This is the second year hunting for me I have 2 spots that i hunt and for the 3rd time in the last 2 seasons someone set up less than 100 yards from me and took deer before they reached my area. Every time it was done it was by the books so nothing I can do but it just pisses me off. I have been spending day and night trying to learn all i can to be a better hunter and when something comes my way I don't get a shot. This sucks sorry for the rant but I had to get it out

Use this.
Look and see why these other hunters were able to get between you and these deer and learn.
Maybe you can set up closer and repay the favor.

I've never hunted state land but have had a few hunts spoiled by tresspassers and know that feeling. I'm assuming you're hunting state land. Just gotta remember that it's there for everyone. I'd do some more scouting this weekend, someplace thick, nasty, and makes you work to get into. You may be rewarded with a better experience.

I'm assuming this is public land??
Like post above-learn why they were able to get deer before they got to you - runways, bedding areas, food source. Where were those deer coming from/going to. Having stands up is a great thing, but hunting from the ground (or a climber) may give you a further advantage if someone pops up nearby. Next year when you scout, if you find a good spot, figure out where those deer are moving to/from.

Buy a climber and become mobile. Remember, no spot is claimed "as yours only" on state land even if you do scout for weeks and plant a stand there.

One spot is public land, The only way to get to it is to hike 2 miles up a stream or know someone that borders it to get access. Alot of people hunt in that area along the stream so I don't want to mess up their hunt by hiking in. The socond spot is private and the deer come from across the line. I think I will take the next wek nad find a few new spots.

sorry to hear that.. sometimes i feel the same way after all the time money and effort seems to go out the window...but heres a different side to this story..recently my dad was working in jackson, after work he would go down the road to some state land and hunt, well he bumped into a few people over the days and never had a hostile encounter, after every hunt the guys would all met up in the parking lot and exchange stories, well yesterday my dad arrowed a dandy 8 point, 19 in outside spread...he needed some help getting it out of the woods so he got help from the other near by hunters...im sure other guys may have been bummed, but my dad said all he got was excitment and congrats from the other state land hunters...this is the way hunting should be! ...good luck out there evryone

I know the feeling to well, except I hunt a small piece of private land and unfortantly I have to share this land with the land owners nephew and his wife! I have been hunting the same stand on this property for 5 years now and all of a sudden this year the nephew decides to put his stand up about 60 yards down from mine on the same run totally cutting me off from any deer coming from that direction!! I can't say anything cause its the land owners family and I'm just a friend!!

get em next time
There's been a lot of posts about this topic lately, I've also felt this feeling and hunt on state land. Hunting on public grounds is a constant battle, remember you are scouting the other hunters just as much as the deer. being aware of where every other stand nearby you is your job as well as how often tjhey are there, how they enter-exit and how often they hunt. Staying mobile is crucial, i hang a couple of stands on state land one as a lookout stand, one in the wettest nastiest s%$# around and also use a climber half the time, gotta mix it up. The climber normally kills the buck. I also liked the idea of local hunters of the same property meet and greet, wish it was like that where I hunt.
