Default thanks

Thanks for the opinions,I don't trust the loins and I will take the deer in tomorrow and see what the pro's think? If I can figure out how to post a pic? I will in another thread. I'm glad I did not give up. Unemployed = a lot of time

We left the track and went back and found her the next day. Pretty bad gut shot. I tried to save the tenders but couldn't. Had some "hind steaks" for dinner last night, delish! Sounds like the rest will be fine.

Yeer? Where did that come from? oops!

Had the same issue almost 2 weeks ago and the weather was even warmer. The meat is fine. Tender loins hit the trash can but saved everything else that wasnt touched by the stomach contents. Was plenty cold last night so all I can say is "enjoy"! Congrats and way to keep at it!

The nose will always know...back in the day that's all the meat inspectors relied on.

Stomach bile may have been circulated through the blood stream, they never taste good after that. Test as you go. Cook some up, use your nose Luke, ues your nose.

Its been cold I would think it would be fine except for the inner loins. I would take white vineger and wipe it down after skinning then bucher it asap. If it smells bad then, dont eat it.

Ive only had one deer that we ate that was questionble, It had been gut shot the night before, then laid until the next day. But it was warmer out. The steaks seemed fine but the ground meat was pretty gamey. It smelt when you cooked it but if you cooked it (loose like for spegetti of chilli) then rinsed it with warm water it was fine. I think it was what fat and connective tissue that ended up in the burger was what had caused the gamey taste. rinsing it after cooking washed away most of the grease (what little is in venison) that made a big difference.
