Good shooting, I'd be happy with that.

Leverevolution. Gave good velocity and accuracy in an M336 with the 180 Speer and 200s.

If you keep an eye out, you'll see some fair deals for grass on Gunbroker (some gouging too). I saw 50 new Remington brass go for $100 or so not too long ago. I'm set for brass for mine, but I'm still tempted when I see a fair deal on it. I was just talking to a friend the other day who has a...

Glad to see another .358 nut like myself! I've had the same rifle for around 20 years now. I shot a doe with the 200 Hornady SP right at around the same velocity at about 200 yards and slightly angled. It took out the opposite shoulder on the way out and I didn't see any indication of it...

I've had the Pro Chrono Digital and later DLX for years, never bought into the Lab Radar. The new Garmin though...game changer, I plan on getting one soon and probably selling my DLX.

Did you pick one up? If you did before the 24th, there is also a $35 rebate you have until July 24th to submit it.

I wouldn't sweat pass throughs, the '06 is more than adequate for any whitetail. Any bullet weight in 150 or 165 will do great. And don't get caught up in you need premiums for deer...any cup and core will work...Core Lokts, Power Points, Interlocks or Federal SPs will do a fine job.

A lot of great deer cartridges, the 25-06 and 7-08 are no exception. I've actually been toying with picking up a .257 Roberts too.
  10. Michigan Whitetail Deer Hunting
Yes! I normally try to set up a couple of spots so I'm flexible and can adjust esp for the biggest unknown variable: when hunters start showing up. And along the lines of being flexible, a hunter we'd met in our hunting area and great group of guys wasn't seeing anything where he'd set up...

I was sitting in one of our blinds this year and watching a young buck sparring with another I couldn't quite see yet. The neighbor put a pop up blind on the property line in the corner and about 4:30 rode it up the fence line to that pop up...all the deer I was watching scattered and I didn't...

Same here. I've used them to color code bullets at distance to find the accuracy node as well.

You can use RN data for SPs, just start at the minimum and work up. Most data for 30-30s is for lever guns so a bolt gun should handle them no problem as long as it's in good working order. In Ken Waters' Pet Loads, he used a Savage 340 for some 30-30 loads with the 125 grain Sierras. Once...

Look at some topo and aerial maps of your area. Use them to narrow down your best spots to scout and put boots on the ground. The best time is right after the season to see what their movements are during the season and how they adapt to the pressure. Late winter/early spring is a great time...

I'd get that and see what it does. it'll give you the most consistent accuracy of a constant point on the bullet rather than variation in tips, bullet length, etc. I've not loaded the FTX, but was looking at it for my 348 Win, but my understanding is the case needs to be cut shorter than...

Agreed. He also said that he's also looking at something a tad bit bigger (than a 243) to eventually use on different game than whitetails. Both fit the bill. Sorry I got off topic, but it never fails when someone posts inaccurate info based on their opinion on what has been proven to work.

Are you able to measure the OAL with your gauge using the bullet ogive to the lands at all, or does the bullet fall out when you do? Ideally, you want a bullet diameter's length inside the neck but some cartridges have short necks and not always possible. The 30-30 has a good case neck but I...

I I can put you in touch with the guy who shot the bison. And that's a lung. I didn't believe it either. But hey if you say so. His name is Mike and he'll probably school you about how "energy" kills. He ended up shooting it 3 times. It just stood there after the first so he put another...

No, quite a few guides and hunters who hunt them like we hunt deer here using them. Drop by and check it out yourself. Post in the elk hunting forum the 270 is too light for elk while you're there: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ There are energy recommendations for deer too, but...

If you prefer to watch something run a few hundred yards have at it. A 270 underpowered? If you say so....
