I have only fished Sugar Springs (Gladwin County), by boat, a half dozen times in my life. Shore fished it a few times here and there to. Have never had but 'two', what I would call 'successful' catches there. Once a good number of years ago fishing open water and were hitting only small largemouth, and later in the day hitting the shorelines and not doing much that way either, but a few gills.
The last time I fished Sugar Springs was last summer (in early June). Fished many a place over the course of the day, no luck at all. Found 'one' spot, behind a small island between island shore and mainland (maybe 50 yds. wide). Picked up 2 barely keeper pike, I believe it was 4 barely keeper largemouth, several very nice crappie, and hit about a dozen very nice slab gills. A LOT of smaller largemouth, and a few other smaller pike.
But, other than that one time, in that one spot, I've come across no other producing holes. Anyone know of any consistent areas On Sugar Springs?
