We started off at the 400 but moved up to Ginos after about an hour w/ no hits. We ended up getting four walleye and some decent perch/sunnies. Green/white and orange/black harnesses took the walleye. Did see a few more nets going in the water today. Fish came in 9-10'. Threw back one nasty looking walleye that was covered from head to tail with some nasty look growths. Nice talking to you Hot Wired.

I hate to throw walleye back when I haven't been catching many, but this one did not look to appetizing!! He had a bunch of this growing over his eyes also.

First great job on the fish. nice eyes/perch/sun's ..second the walleye was marked up should have been kept and put in a plastic bag to throw in the dumpster at the ramp. Its not a toxic thing. is a like chicken pox in fish .. If let go that fish will spread it to others. better to cut your limit short one and trash the thing, than let it go. JMO... the untouched lakes way up in canada with no industry or bad runoff ect gets the same skin problems. like I said its not the bad stuff in the water is something a walleye can spread to another walleye.
Nice day on the water and a nice looler of fish.

So you picked up your fish around Geno's and not the 400? What depths were you fishing? I'm heading out in the morning.

Thanks for the info Ed. In the future I will do that. I have seen that a couple of times before but did not know it could be passed on. Some sort of parasite I assume. My buddy caught a HOG walleye last year from the same area and it was the same way. Good luck to you guys tomorrow, I plan to be out EARLY at least one day this weekend.

Yes sir. I think I might have threw it out, but I had an In-fisherman magazine from I think last year, and it had a great article in it about Walleye Pox. Almost every species of fish has a Pox now. Muskie Pox, Bass Pox, etc, etc. Of course it is contagious, so next time, let them die and throw em in the garden. Some times the Pox kills the 'Eye, and sometimes it doesn't. I think the survival rate was around 50%. The ones in the lab that did survive, had an immunity and couldn't contact the Pox again.

Why not eat the fish instead of throwing it out? I've eaten plenty of walleye with these growths and haven't had any problems. I think it's kind of like eating perch with grubs. A little gross if you sit and stare, but oh so good with a can of Natural Light.

Why would you eat that fish after looking at the photo? I think all of that Natural Light is going to your head !
