ok I'm looking at minn kota trolling motors and don't have a clue to which one to get .
boat 17' sea nymph striper
i fish out of St.clair and marysville bottom bouncing and would like to get into vertical jiggin so i need some good boat control.
how much thrust would be needed to control boat (not much wind vs. a good wind)
also how do you know what length shaft is needed , how far down should the motor be in the water from where it bolts to the boat?
12 or 24 volt?

I'm looking at the
PowerDrive 12 volt? 55 thrust? 48"-54"shaft?

the 55 thrust would be good for the inland lakes i fish but don't know about scr. any input would be great thx!

Get the highest thrust you can afford. On the windy days you will need it. I have a 20 foot Champion with a 72 lb thrust Motorguide, and it does fine.

If i was getting the motor, I would get the longer shaft unit. Simply because on a windy wavey day the motor will be out of the water as much as in the water and that is when you need it the most. I have a 55lb power drive minn kota on my 16' spectrum and a 75lb autopilot on my 20' crestliner. Both work very well.

It just so happens that a have a Maxxum 74 for sale. This motor is practically brand new. You'll need to supply 24 volts for this motor. I'll have to check the shaft length but I think it is a 54" shaft. I was just getting ready to place it on Walleye Central for sale. PM for price.
