I'm a beginner getting into fishing. I think I'll get the Bass Pro Shop MegaCast Spinning Combo. I was thinking of medium action, is that right for all around small fish use.

What weight and color line should I use for smaller fish?

Thanks.

Medium should work fine for anything from bluegill to pike(if you take it easy). I would go with clear 8lb test line. That is ussually a good line weight to go with medium spinning rods. The Bass Pro Shops combos are a really good deal most often.

Match that combo with a good selection of tackle and you'll be all set.

Thanks for the help. I picked up that combo today. I picked up the 8# clear also. There's an on'off switch on the reel. What's that for?

Probably anti-reverse

it lets you reel backwards. don't put it on that setting, it can only lead to tangles, if you don't know how to use it properly.
