Ok it seems I'm full of questions this week, but I got a bunch of new gear and am going fishing tomorrow for the first time in quite awhile. So the question is:

With this rain will the crawlers be out tonight, or is it too cold out for them to come out from hiding?

If you normally get crawlers on your lawn or garden or where-ever after a rain then getting them tonight should be a real possibility.

Crawlers like cool soil much more than warm soil. Right now I have found them in the top 6" of the garden. Once the ground warms up they will be next to impossible for me to find until fall.

I pick them all the time in early april. Got about 7 dozen last weekend, and last night grabbed a quick 4 dozen. I figure about 40 deg. is the cutoff point. When trhey do come out, they are only ouy a few inches when its that cold. Picking your own is a good way to offset high gas prices. I pick up and wet down last falls leaves, maple work about the best, and use it for bedding. works great.

Digging holes in our garden and finding crawlers after rain is how I provide all my bait. My dad doesnt appreciate it but its a lot cheaper than buying them all summer long. I got enough to last me for awhile on Friday.
