4" tube jigs are fun in the spring and early summer. bounce em off the bottom in the shallows, drag em into the deep later in the year.

Got one! ;)

I have a tough time using lures for bass. Oddly enough I find that using a nightcrawler on a harness or a Lindy Rig works best for me...

Anyone have luck using the Jig and Pig method?

Zara Spook. Great big fish bait. Let it come to a complete stop between twitches and hang on!

Rapala Skitter Pop and if I can't get it through the cover I switch it up to anything with a white belly (Scum Frog, Boss Rat, Strike King frog, etc.).

buzz baits around steel breakwalls, pads, and piers @ sunrise and sunset.
All day long if there is a ripple on the water.
Second would be a popp-r in deeper water over weeds or structure.

its pretty much been my experience that the fish have to be in a "walk the dog" mood to throw a spook or general likeness. whereas most aggressive fish will hit a buzzbait anyday.

Pop-R and a Devils Horse are my favorite topwaters. Followed by a spook and a floating rapala.

I'm with Byron on this one.....

Thanks for the tip Byron. ;)

That reminds me, I think it's time to restock. I haven't bought a new scum frog in two years. Most of my white ones are getting pretty well worn. A couple of times last year I had a decent bucket mouth turn one competely inside out !

Ditto. Right around dusk or dawn on calm water.
Its usually best to replace those dull anchors that they put on 'em for hooks tho.

With a plastic jerkbait coming in third, because of it's versatility.

By the way: gotta go to parent's orientation at UofM next week....don't know if I can cope..... :dizzy:

New Spro's
http://www.spro.com/frog.htm
7/8 oz. Those ought to be a lot easier to cast than a scumfrog on wind swept waters like Lake St Clair.
I see D&R Sports is listed as a dealer. I'll have to check them out.:)

Those look cool !

But I went to the D&R web site and it looks like they don't carry any tackle. From what I saw, it was all hunting and shooting supplies. Yet they ARE listed as a dealer for those Spro's. Maybe just in the store but not online ?

jpollman

Ahhhh, I don't think so.....

I just clicked on that link and went to the "purchase online" link. $10.99 each !! :yikes: I think I'll stick to my $3.00 Scum frogs.

White Terminator Spinnerbait with a white twistertail trailer. Burn that baby just under the surface until you can't burn no more! I think I must be kin to Jimmy Houston.

:fish: The best top water has got to be the six inch jitterbug fished along lake or pond edges from dusk till dawn when water temp. is 58 or above consistently catches five to nine pounders and I only say nine because thats the biggest I have caught in Mi. but i have caught two of them in the last two years.
I have always thought this is the most underrated bass fishing method of all
I read a story in 1997 about a man in florida who caught more ten pound bass than anyone in the states history! The lure of choice a 6 inch black jitterbug

Bass anglers hooked on lures -- some are hoaxes

The search for the "magic button" of fishing has led to a $100 bass lure and hoaxes that have reaped millions of dollars.

Butch Brown, who fishes Castaic Lake in Southern California, tested the Huddleston Deluxe and caught 121 bass over 10 pounds last year, including 23 in one month alone, according to Terry Hodges, the former game warden who reported and verified the story, and is fishing this week with Brown.

A 3/8 oz. buzzbait has won $1400 for me in bass tournaments ,so I'll have to say it's my favorite topwater . I also like a Zara Spook , PopR , and Zoom Fluke soft plastics .

early season any silver color spoon works the best for me. Hard baits are second best. Not into using much plastics, but starting to advance more into using them.

Yozuri Hardcore Shad Cranks are going to be my start up this season. Last year fished with a lot of Yozuri shallow and medium diving shad cranks, but see they came out with a crank that only goes less than a foot. Have to start stocking up on them.
