Most unlikely evening fishing in the Grand River near Lansing. The secret to catching fish I think is having bluegills for dinner before going out. Okay, but it’s as good as any other reason. I started out wadding across the gravel bar to a small back eddy on the opposite bank. After 10 minutes without a bite, I was about to move but decided to make one last cast.

I hooked a small perch so I made another cast and caught a smallmouth about a pound. Before the sun set I caught at least 20 perch most almost keepers, a 8 lb carp a sunfish, several bluegills a 3 lb channel cat, a 17" walleye a dozen more smallmouth and a 19" steelhead and one fish I fought for 10 minutes on 3.5 lb test line before I lost it.

Why do I go up north every weekend? Anyway here are a couple of pictures.

I wish I had some more!

Well isn't that something! LOL! Nice pictures.

I suppose that's the bottom line when it comes to why we all fish, you just never know what one more cast will bring.

Shametamer,

There might be some ways I haven't tried to cook bluegills, but in the end, I just dust them with flour and fry them at 325 degrees in Crisco with a dab of butter. Once in a while I will dice a little onion, but with bluegills the simpler the better.

Mitch,

Just wondering, is the little woman still as open minded about your fishing now that your married? ;)

Amazing! You must have the touch....which dam do you prefer in Lansing? Unless I wade or use the land bridge I find too many snags at the 3 stacks. Just curious. Is that jig under a bobber? Thanks

I ate a hotdog before fishing and only got carp and sheephead. Might be something to this. I'll try a walleye dinner, I might end up with a Sturgeon.

Nice photos. that cooked fish is making me real hungry.

Hey Ray,

The answer is to catch and eat clean fish ;)

Those city fish from the grand? :yikes:

How do you cook those blue gills. Easy if they are from the Grand River, they have so much mercury and chemicals, just fillet them, lay them in the frying pan with the heat turned off and they will cook themselves
