Went to the Rogue River State Game Area last week, and found lots of dump sites. This is getting out of hand, and I don't think the DNR can keep it under control, without our help.We as Sportsman should keep a keen eye on these low lifes that just plain don't care! So let's just leave our tire tracks, and footprints, and that's all on these lands, and I hope I catch someone dumping trash!

The state lands that I morel hunt on get garbage dumped and if I see any that just got dumped (new ones), I will poke around abit hopeing to spot somthing with an addy on it . I too would love to catch these IDIOTS.
A lot of the crap they dump are old appliances that they could take to 1 of the 2 scrap yards that are in this local area and even make there gas money back. LAZY SOBs

I'm with you outsider, a lot of washers and old stoves and fridges out there. Kind of strange that they prefer to go and dump this stuff illegally in the middle of the night when they could get a couple of bucks for it and do it during the day for free at a metal scrap yard. Just blows my mind.

I had two old junk cars here, a legacy of my sons, and I had to PAY the junk yard to take them away-$50. Most people up here also pay for their heavy appliances to be hauled away-$15-20 per item.
If there are any metal scrap yards around here that will pay me, I'd sure like to know about them.
I'm not defending the scum who dumps on state land, I spend many hours every spring working with groups to pick up the trash all over my area, and spend many hours doing it alone. But I'm sure that's why you're seeing that trash, and with the bad economy, you're going to see a lot more-people aren't going to pay a trash company if they can't pay their electric bill.
The accumulation of trash in people's yards and in the woods is why a number of the townships up here have started "heavy pick up days"...ours is in late June this year. Last year, the amount of trash, including batteries, old tires, fridges with freon still in them, and all kinds of other stuff that you're not supposed to put out there because they won't pick it up, was amazing. I don't know how they got it all, but they got most of it, except for the stuff that's considered toxic.
When you find trash on public land, don't just rummage through it and call an already over-worked CO, but pick up what you can and dispose of it yourself. I wouldn't expect the state to do it, they don't have the people or the time anymore-in fact, up here, I've never seen the state pick up the trash, usually it's the Boy Scouts or someone like that, if it gets picked up at all. CO's have lots better things to do, and even if they did have the time, they could spend every minute of their day out there picking up the trash, so it's up to you and me.
And wear camo or something that identifies you as a sportsman to the people driving by...

 MMM lets see if them lazy SOB's can muster enough energy to load a peice of appliance into the back of there 1969 rusted out Chevy 4/4 with the gun rack in the back window. rather than dumpping it on State land, drive a few extra miles and TAKE it to a scrap yard,,,,, or just leave it on there PIG HOLE property... If They cant afford to have it picked up take it yourself if you can get it to state land you can get it to a scrap yard lazy AS***** To all the piggs wallow in your own mud (gabage)......

Hate to say it, but they are always going to be those people who do it. Long ago I decided not to let it bother me. I just pick up what I can and leave it at that.
I think the solution is to have free trash pickup once every three months or at least twice a year and it would eliminate lots of the big stuff, like Linda said. It cost less to do it that way than to pick it up at the bottom of every ravine. Just my two cents.

you know, guys, a lot of that stuff comes from folks who own cottages up here who live elsewhere who have no idea what to do with their trash-so they put their regular trash in a rest area dumpster, (with thousands of campers who are up here every weekend that don't know what to do with their trash) and their old appliances out in the woods.
After all, I had a guy from Ohio who just bought a place down the road say to me yesterday who was picking trilliums on my property, "it's just the woods"...like it's all free for the taking...and trashing.
See if you can find out who dumped it, take some pictures, pick up what you can yourself, then call the DNR.
Forget about who dumped it...
Free heavy trash pick ups happen around here once a year, and only in the townships that can afford it.

Linda,
Right as usual. It is not always the locals. In my opinion, the townships can't afford not to do it, but we all know what my opinion is worth lol.

If you can get the freon out of it, I'll bet that the city of TC has some sort of program that will help you deal with it...or call Max's or one of the other local appliance stores, they may have some ideas.
See guys? Be glad you have metal scrap dealers down there. I know people who would try to make a living collecting and selling stuff like this if they only had a buyer... :(
