In my book the most exciting and fun furbearer to trap is the mink. It probably comes from the fact when I first started to trap, catching a mink was a big deal. Besides being worth at least 10 times as much as a muskrat, all your trapping buddies were really impressed, since catching mink was suppose to took some special trapping skills.
At age 12 in 1956 I caught my first mink. It was a female and I got $5.00 from Sears and Roebuck. It was enough money to purchase a dozen new #1 victor long springs. From then on I was a confirmed mink trapper. At 15 years old I managed to catches 10 mink with the help of my father driving me around the country side early in the morning before he headed to work. I remember selling these mink for $18 for the males and $9 for the females. It was a small fortune to me back in 1959.
Following these school days traplines I got even more serious about trapping after college and spent all my vacation time going after fox, coyote, raccoons, skunks, opposum on long dry land traplines by 4x4.
Then I would shift to the river by canoe and go after the mink, muskrats and raccoons. And finishes the year with beaver and otter trapping, which was the most work of all.
Long answer to a short questions, but trapping is a very special activity for me.

You guys must do this for the love of the sport. There isn't much money in furs anymore is there? More upland hunters need to get behind you guys. We all hear how the game birds propulations are down just think how bad it would be if you guys stopped harvesting all those egg eaters. Yoda you need to come to the lower my grouse honny hole is being flooded by beaver.

carl was just kidding Yoda you never ever let anybody know where a grouse honny hole is. Besides that poor beaver may have a hunting accident.
