Hit the Saginaw about 10:30 this morning and fished till about 4:30. Caught 7 eyes with 4 of them being keepers about 16" TO 23". I also caught a lot of sheephead and a nortern about 20". Got bit off by 2 nice fish on spiderwire in the exact same spot. That made my mind up to go back to mono instead of braid :bash: Unsure what they were, but they had the classic walleye head shakes not like the straight northern runs. Caught them all around the Genessee St. bridge, with the eyes coming from right underneath it. Saw a few guys at the launch with there limit so there are still eyes in the river.

baydog2 - not trying to be a smarta@@ or anything, but, what makes you think that mono will hold up better than a braid for biteoffs ? (given line strength being equal, etc.) I've never had a big problem with 'eyes biting off much at all, Pike yes, 'eyes no.

No offense taken, I just started with braided this year for the sensetivity. Using 8 lb spiderwire sure would seem more durable in my opinion. Not to shake any trees but it could be different braids such as Fireline are different. I've fished with a few guys with fireline having a heck of a time trying to break off of snags. But I never got cut off 2 times in a day with 8 lb Trilene. When line comes up frayed at the end, that looks to me like wear from the fish's side to side head shakes. I guess that why they call it wear and tear, I could have been bit off on mono who knows. Just my 2 cents.

You didn't buy that line at the same place You've been gettin' Your jigs did Ya ? The "blue light" special stuff with an inch of dust on it :evilsmile ! With Fireline, I've been bit off by Pike - NEVER by a Walleye of any size. Sounds to Me Bud, that You got some well aged line. Good job on the Fish, scoured the same spot Saturday - it was empty. Have a digital camera coming so We can post some pics this Year! Bob.

No bud you know me better than to step into a blue light situation. Heard of mono aging but braid. :dizzy: Besides I seen the walleyes you catch they are still , well put it this way I don't know how you get a jig past the mother to the young ones underneath. Must be I pulled the mother away all ready. See yah in the morning in the spot, with the coffee and donuts.

I have always been told walleye have rounded teeth so they cant bite the line like a pike.I also have not had a walleye bite through my line.I have had them break off but that was when I used to use mono. I know use fireline in 20lb.test(8lb. dia.) for jigging in the rivers.A couple of other members have spoken highly about Cabela's rip cord line....Just my 2 cents..
