looking for smelt

Although I experienced good luck this season already sucker spearing in lower western Michigan,My search for the rainbow smelt continues.Can anyone out there help me? Are they gone? Could they all be eaten by the overpowering coho before they reach our shores?

I can't tell you about the Lower West but as for the North Eastern part there has been no sign of smelt. The water is way too low all over the place. I don't even try for smelt anymore, They are too unpredictable.
It's the walleye and Browns that gobble the crap out of them in my neck of the woods.
