Has anyone every seen somebody use single kernals of yellow corn out of a can for bait? I seen this several times and the people that were doing it were quite successful. I have to believe that it looks like a feed pellet at a hatchery or something to the fish.

Steve,
I read and article about some guy trout fishing for hatchery fish and they used rabbit pellets from the ( rear end )for bait.
It was a funny story.Nothing matched the hatchery fish food except for the rabbit droppings.I have tried corn for carp and it worked.

We used to use corn all the time for panfish on Houghton Lake, occasionally hooked up something else (Bass and Walleye) but not often enough to give it a serious try for bigger fish.

Steve we used to use corn all the time for fishing trout at night, mostly in the inland lakes, and mostly at night with a light. It does work very well..

In Arizona corn is one of the most used baits for trout. It works on the wild trout as well as the stocked fish. I think trout like the smell and taste. Corn thats been sitting in juice seems to work better than corn off the cob or corn thats been in the water a few times. I have no idea about michigan fish as I'm just starting to learn this fishery, but I would think all trout would like the same type of food.

Corn resembles washed out steelhead and salmon eggs! It does work for stream trout in Michigan. I was going to use it as chum for steelhead fishing but I heard from a reliable source that smaller trout can't handle eating a lot of it cause it's hard for them to digest.
Trout, A buddy of mine is experimenting with brown and black globugs to test the Hatchery pellet theory. So far the black has produced one fish, but the brown hasn't. He just started his experiment this year so who knows!!

They use it all the time out here, your dead on about the hatchery food theory. At night under the lights, just put one on a hook over the side and every 10 minutes toss just a few high in the air around the boat (Dinner bell!!)But it only works here in the first few weeks after they dump the new hatchery rainbows in the lakes

A friend and I were bluegill fishing early one fall. We ran out of worms and thought, what the heck. So we rowed over to the edge of the pond to a nearby farmers field corn field...yes field corn. It was still soft like sweet corn, so we grabbed a few ears and out we went again. It worked great. The fish that normally just steal your nightcrawler were hooked because the tougher outside of the corn. I since have tried it on rivers and have cleaned up on carp and suckers. Never tried it on steelies though, will have to try it next time I'm stumped.
