do you mean ANY tournaments, or one in particular? Looking at the schedules for CATT, FOM, NBAA, etc., the only one i can see is division 37 of NBAA (http://www.nbaa-bass.com/pages/divisions/div_37.htm) still fishing Wabasis.
There were others, but pressure kind of put the lake down for a while.

I doubt that highly...I fished Wabasis for years when I lived in GR - and there's a zillion bass in that lake... Always caught my biggest ones generally 'tween 10:00AM & 3:00PM , when the lake was as wh00ped up as Reddi-Whip. I always caught fish ...
Of course I was never no Pro "Hot-DawG Hunter" with a 20Ft. 350HP Glastron.... but the lake can take a lot of pressure , provided there's guys that ACTUALLY know how to fish it !
Limited out a lot - now I'm too far north to goof with it.
Check Gander Mtn. & Al & Bob's , scooter57 they usually have some schedules posted or can hook you up with a PH.#.....

SFW1960,
Any chance I could get some info on your technique on Wabasis. I have fished Wabasis a lot and have had reasonable success. My best results have been drift fishing crawler harnesses. I have never limited out of Wabasis so I am curious how you were fishing.
Thanks

Sure...
Number one answer -- Worms... on steep ledges , you anchor deep off a drop - say 18-26 FOW then cast UP the break working the bait down sl0-0-0-0wly... let them sKarF it up & pound them good...
Try to get the wind at your back so casting up the break is easier.....
If you know where Whittenbach's landing *used* to be , then you would know there is a point east of there - about half way to ace's , on the side facing aces , there is a nice ledge about half-way out on the underwater point , kind of a finger on the finger....On a map nearby it rolls into about 50-some FOW.
IF you can locate that , I can just about guarantee a limit on any given day. It would probably be 3-4 fish 15"-17" with one big old girl from 18"-25" .
I have had good sucess with a bomber rip-shad topwater (clear w/blue nose) for topwater action , large jitterbugs AFTER dark.
BUT like I said , right in the middle of the day - fishin' "noodles" down the breaks works fantastic most of the time. You can also pick up some nice fish with live (or Rapalas) minnows hung over the side , but those pesky northerns want to eat 'em too.You need decent anchors to hold on with all the YinGYAngzzz wailing the waves though... I have a Magnum "Water Spike" rated for 18-25" boats on my 16' deepV.

SFW1960,
Thanks for all the great tips. I will give them a try when I am out there on opening day. I will be sure to let you know how I do. I have done fairly well drifting through some of the areas you marked, but I have never tried the point you referenced. Thanks again for all the detailed info.

Well get ready to do some serious slammin'!!
Remember:
There is a very small finger in where that line points -- you will need to scout closely to find it , and when you do -- there should be dozens of fish suspended - or relating to it. :yikes:
I do expect a full GOOD report!!
If you do not get on them , slide up & down until you find it... there is coontail down deep in one spot -- that's just a bit nearby..
G'luck & knock 'em dead....

Try topwater in the early morning. I fished one tournamet a few years back on there. We ended up in Second place. There was maybe 20 boats in the tourney. If you want to have fun on that lake go in the early morning's. No boats jet skiers or the like. Make sure you have a good boat because you will get pounded on that lake during the day. Might see the bottom in the deep parts with the rolling waves.

SFW1960,
I will find where you are talking about. I will be out there for 3 days and will be fishing for a good portion of that. My 6 year old will probably catch all the fish! I just drive the boat.
Thanks

I gotta agree with that finger, it can be very hot at times. Wabasis has always been a spot on a spot lake for me. I have been fishing tourney's there for close to 20 years. The underwater islands can be good too but that is more of a community hole, so it tends to be hit or miss. Don't overlook the bay immediately right of the boat launch either, that has given me some fine limits in the past. Everybody else zooms off to parts unknown and I start right in that cove and have won my share of money there.

OK!!
It's settled!!
NOW ~ I am going to remove the image linked above , so WHEN I fianlly do get a chance to fish there again , there might *actually* be some 'uneducated' fish left to thrash on!!!:lol::lol:

You hit the nail on the head - the guys that shotgun every inch of water @ 75MPH NEVER get a whiff of the fish that guys like you & I are kickin' the sn0t outta'!
Indeed it is a spot on a spot lake. First you have to locate them , then you have to pinpoint them and then you need to pattern them. One time my Wife (GF @ the time) was reeling in a rock bass about 9-10" (live crawler) and a nice old sow grabbed it & got it's dorsal fin lodged in it's crushers!! I'd say the fish went close to 26" and well over six pounds because she came up & wallered on top right after the fight ensued. I can't say "hooked" because it can't be proven that it was -- it came loose after a few minutes of tussle and my Wife reeled up a very sore , scaled , sm00shed excuse of a rock bass.... What a thrill it was for the both of us while it lasted!
:yikes:
The guys that concentrate on the fish they are on & fish with confidence seperate the men from the boys.
Instead of the run -N- gun crowd... they remind me of people that suffer from ADD or ADHD ~ just can't focus on any thing for two seconds....
Tha's too bad , one of the MANY reasons I won't fish tournaments , personally.
Dollar on the first , biggest & most is about the extent of my "competition" and it ticks off some guys that know me well , because I could be an "asset" as their partner in a boat.... too bad !!!:gaga:
Listen to MGV too , he knows his stuff...
;)
I might hit 'er for gILLZ this next week W/the Wife...
G'luck all !
