Dose anyone else live in Warren I do today, and at the rate the stupid city is going I might not be living here very much longer. They are warning that they are going to tow my boat away if I dont move it by tomarrow. Even after I did what they said 10 ft from the house and 5 ft from the fence behind my house on cement blocks. Now they gave me a problem last year when I bought my boat and wanted to park it in my driveway. It is bad enough when I cant even park my camper at my house [ because they are afraid someone might live in it?] yeah right!!. Well just wanted to see if anyone else in my area is having the same problems.

Thanks
Tim
Sorry for the rant.

Man that sucks, thats why I live in the country. I can pee in the yard, burn whatever, shoot whenever, store whatever outside and nobody says nothing. Sounds like you need to go to a township meeting and do some complaining, good luck.

Tim, I've lived in Warren for 11 years and have kept my 18' boat there year round without any trouble. It is stored covered, in my back yard, on a cement slab right next to my garage.
Luckily my immediate neighbors are all outdoors people. Plus the fact that I don't complain about their loud, late-night parties......as long as they invite me over for a brew. :D

Does the notice look something like this?
Sec. 78-22. Storage of recreation vehicles in residential districts.
No recreation vehicle shall be located within the building setback (front yard), nor closer than five feet to a rear or side lot line in a residential district for a period exceeding 72 hours.

I am a zoning enforcement officer for a twp. in Kent County and deal with this all summer. This is not a new thing and many cities and township's have this ordinance, it's not just Warren.

I dont think you should be able to park your boat or your rv in your driveway (permanently). I know I dont want to look out my front door everyday and stare at somebodys boat or rv.

I understand the idea behind zoning regulations. Afterall, noone wants to see their property values decline because a bunch of bubbas next door have a smorgasbord of junk on their lawn.

But I think sometimes townships go too far with their restrictions.

Tim if you complied with all the ordinances and they are still giving you a problem. Call the station 574-4700 , ask for a watch commander. He will get you in touch with The Sgt. in carge of ordinances .If your not happy with that ask to talk with the LT. You can even go in person if you want. Good luck. Your boat looks fine to me but that is not my departmant

People put there boats in the back of their yard in the Edison strip year after year. Also gardens, junk piles, grass piles, old campers that have half rotted away, and they get away with it. Maybee someone has to complain? There are at least three people on my street that keep their boats in their driveway all summer long. One is 21-24 footer, a 14 aluminum and a 16 fiberglass. I have a 17 foot and am lucky I can keep it in my garage. tightlinesyall

i don't think they would go out of their way to bother ya unless they got a complaint, in sterling heights we had the same ordinance, and my neighbor kept his 22' boat in his driveway for prolly 6 years without a problem. if someone complained, i'm sure something would have been done, but noone did.

not that i liked it. it did kinda suck to stand in your driveway and not be able to see in all directions, but eh, i'm not one to make waves where they don't need to be. there were a lot of complaints when my other neighbor let his yard get high enough to cut and bail... not to mention the shear amount of weeds coming from his lawn venturing into ours and his other neighbor's was appauling. the city came out and he started taking better care of his yard, which was appreciated.

Thanks for the info guys. Just for the record I am not trying to park it in my drive permenatly it is on the side of my house not obstructing anyones view of anything I dont even have any neighbors that can see the boat from their front yard.

I forgot to touch on the Edison power lines there is definatly alot more junk down there than need be that is for sure. Now that is somthing to complain about.

That would be Edison's property. An officer can't tell someone to move there junk ect., unless edison is making the complaint. It's kinda like if someone parked there boat in back of a buisness or shop and the owner said nothing about it.
