I will be heading to Hamlin Lake near Ludington in a couple weekends and I have a few questions:

1. The last couple years there have not be a size limit on pike. I that still true?

2. Our resort is in the upper weedier lake. Is there any holes or good spots that some of the bigger pike rome?

3. we have caught some big small mouth in the upper, but is there any walleye in that part of the lake?

4. Is the big hole near the narrows that lead to the lower lake good? i have fished that area but never caught anything.

5. Has anyone heard of any tigers muskie caught there in the last few years? Do you think there are any left?

Any help would be greatly apprcieated. Thanks

We typically fish Hamilin in the Spring. Three of us did extremely well this year. We were fishing for pike, but couldn't get away from the bass. Between us, we had at least 6 fish that were more than 5 lbs (largemount and smallmouth). All fish were released unharmed. The "narrows" between the lakes was a very hot spot. Another good spot for pike and largemouth was the north bayou.

According to the 2001 fishing regs, there is still no length limit on northern pike.

Rumor has it that all (or at least most) of the tiger muskies were mistakenly harvested as northern pike. Make sure you know your species.

Good LUCK!!! Post results when you return, especially if you figure out the walleye bite. You might inspire me to take a fall trip.

The north bayou is actually in the south lake on the east side. It's directly across from the Ludington State Park area.

Please be very careful in the north bayou. It is full of stumps. (My buddy and I actually call them stomps, because they will stomp you and your boat.) Just go slow. It seems like an awesome place for bass and pike to hang out. I also understand they catch a lot of panfish in that area.

It's pretty easy to find - don't let the cold keep you off the water either.

GOOD LUCK - Post a report when you return!!!
