Spent the last hour typing and here is what I had to say.
First off I NEVER claimed ALL yoopers are like that. I left room in all of my posts for the people that aren't by saying things like most but not all ect. I also learned alot from some yoopers when I lived there, things that shaped me into the outdoorsman I am today and will be with me for life, much of it about conservation. I didnt generalize a WHOLE class of people I left room for the exception. I never once claimed a yooper to be ignorant. Just that many are set in their ways and dont do much to further their fishing knowledge or skills. It is kind of a tradition to fish they way they fish and leave it at that. I am familiar with NORTHJEFF and his stand on conservation. I commend him wholeheartedly for taking a stand and trying to educate people and get action in the UP. He is a RARE exception of all people of this state not just Yoopers. He actually gets out there and puts his actions where his words are. I see no difference between the carp and chocolay compared to the Little M, betsie, bear creek etc. Those three are protected here because of their size and natural reproduction amongst other reasons. The carp and chocolay are SMALLER and easier to impact. The Dead is a bigger body of water without alot of natural reproduction and is easily accesible. I never argued against posting on the Dead. Go for it, it has marginal impact. If you dont think those other rivers are delicate then you need to spend some time learning more about the watershed there. I also said long ago that there is nothing wrong with dunking worms, throwing ornage spinnerbaits, whatever. As long as it is done legally I could care less. I enjoy a beer on the river here and there, most of the time it is while I am patiently waiting for a hatch to start. I also take my beer cans with me along with any other trash I had. I call the RAP line whenever a situation warrants it. Your buddies who supposedly had their land stolen from them are out spearing OUR spawning steelhead all night on some of those rivers. I inquired about that. It was ILLEGAL but I was told that it would be looked into. NOTHING was done on numerous occasions of complaints. I finally got an explanation. The state wont get involved because the "victims" will cry to the BIA and then they get off with no reprimand. Basically a free ticket to rape the resource. Either way like I said before I love the UP, I have many friends there or from there and I plan on living there again someday. My main point at the start of this thread was to bring up the fact that posting on small streams with viable wild fisheries is not wise and is detrimental to the health of the ecosystem.
