View Full Version : Takin' kids fishin'
Looking for a good place to take some small kids fishing from shore. They are 2 and 3 years old, and love fishing. Can anyone suggest anything?
Thanks

Welcome to the site...I am not sure on a good place to take the kids...I took my 3 year old daughter to Stoney Creek Metro Park and fished with a bobber and worm off the North Dam. She caught 2 Bluegils and a perch...but others may know of better lakes where there are more fish! Again...Welcome and you will be glad you found this site...the people on here are the best, I was reluctant to meet fishing buddies online, but the guys and gals I met on here are the greatest...I have made many new friends and learned so much from them.....THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!>>>> Don aka Northern_Outdoorsman

Welcome Oly! I see you are from SCS. Are you familiare with the Blossom Heath Park? The driveway heading back to the fishing pier has Miller Marina on the right. There are "no fishing" signs all over the place, but if you go to the end of the slips, where the canal turns there are always plenty of lil blue gills there. Nothin to eat, but plenty of entertainment for kids. My 2 yr. old nephew has a blast! As long as you are not casting rods towards boat slips.....no one will say anything to you. Fishing on the very end of the pier can produce some halfway decent rock bass action from time to time as well.
GOOD LUCK!

Hi Oly, Before too long, the back boat basin at Metropolitan Beach might start to produce soom Perch along with some other panfish. If you want to drive a little further, take I 94 to the 23 mi. rd. exit.Take M 29 toward Algonac. A few miles past Fair Haven is a road called Anchor Bay Drive. Turn right and take it to the end where you will find a boat ramp. You can park and fish there. On the North Channel side there are usually some Perch and a few pan fish with an occasional Bass, Walleye or Pike. On the opposite side is a canal that should hold some panfish. You might want to take a few minnows this time of year. There is a bait shop at the corner of M 29 and Anchor Bay Drive. You might ask them where there is some good action in the area also. Good Luck!
