How is the water. Is it about ready to go or are there too many ice flows.
I also just go off the phone with Elizabeth Park and the ramps are not in yet. They are hoping to be in by Good Friday.

It varies day to day with the ice.
April 1st Never seen them in earlier. While were out fishing, the are still dockless. Its early yet water is way too cold.
Elizabeth Park Marina
The Detroit River offers some of Michigan’s finest fishing and Elizabeth Park Marina puts you right in the action. Elizabeth Park Marina and Boat Launch provides four launching and four loading wells and a 52-slip mooring facility.
The facility has utility hookup, pump station and new shower facility. This award-winning transient marina was built in 1993 through an Urban Waterways Grant. Improvements at the marina include a new shower facility and parking lot enhancement. We are excited about these new features. The Marina is open 24 hours a day from April 1 to October 31

Keep me posted. I moved about an hour away and haven't really gotten out inthe past few years. This year I am determined, even though it looks like my calendar already has every Sat in April tied up. i will have to alternate mornings and evenings. I usually go in the A.M. before 6:00. How is the evening April Action, what time should i hit the river. Is verticle jigging good late evening or do I need to take up hand-lining?

The ramp at rotary park has been pulled out and elizabeth park is not open until april 1st.Leaving lake erie metro as the only place to put in.Up in wyandotte it's most likely open also. There are ice flows in the trenton channel still that would hurt your boat if you hit them.

We're planning on making the drive over and fish on the 5th,6th & 7th. Think that is too early? I see the downriver walley club has their first tournament the 3rd so I thought just after that sounded about right. I looked at the results from the last few years and it looks like they usually have their first two tournaments in the 1st & 3rd weeks of April. I also noticed that the big fish for the tournament was alway bigger at the first tournament, so I thought the 5th sounded about right. If th 5th doesn't make it, I'd have to wait two weeks later to make the trip over....any thoughts? Thanks!!!

I would plan on the two weeks later as there is still over a foot of ice in FairHaven and plenty more flows to come down from Lk. Huron. Sure it will move out in a few weeks but the water will still be behind in temp this spring. What do you guys think- late season start? They are hoping we hit 40 degress this week.

The Mid April Is Almost Allways A Good Time To Shiver On The River. That's If You Want More Than A Fish Or Two Maybe.

Why are the fish there earlier on Sag. river, but later on Det. river? Shallower warmer ,slower current? It makes sense that there is much more ice comming down Det.Is the temparture the biggest factor?

Im going to say that this year is a solid two weeks behind the average year for fishing the river.

What is the latest. Wife is taking the kids south for spring break. I would like to drop the boat in the water while I get the chance. Is the channel in good shape? Who has the docs in. Metro, EP, Wyandotte. I heard EP was planning on Good Friday. Do you think it would be better to drop in at metro instead of wyandotte?

When i left for work today there was very little ice. Just a small chunk here and there.
Hope fully it stays that way i planned on testing my luck tonight. I just put together a glow in the dark worm harness that i wanted to use.
