Took home 8 fish last night near the Salt River. While cleaning one I noticed a bunch of small hard black circle objects in the fillets. Anyone know what kind of disease or growth this is?? This fish was the only one with these in it. Of course I did not keep this fillets. First time I have ever seen this.

Caught some perch out of Fletcher's Pond a whille back . These perch had some ball type spots graish balck color . Turned out to be some kind of parasitic worm , DNR said the fillet is fine just remove .
Use your own discretion ,:yikes:

Yup, I'm pretty sure it is a parasite that is not harmful after frying. Just think of it as pepper! :p

Thanx to our fishing eating birds that is a parasite. Its not harmfull to humans but I'd throw it out if it loaded with the dots. In order for this parasite to survive . the infected fish has to be eaten by a bird (damn comarant) then the cycle can continue and spread to other perch. less comarants less black spots.

Yeh, most of the perch and bluegill I have caught have had the black grubs on them. They aren't harmful to eat, but I usually throw them out if there are too many on there. Another one that I have found on the bluegills are the yellow grub. They are soft and look like a yellow "goober" in the meat. They come out easy if you just prick the area with your fillet knife and "coax" them out with the tip. I had to throw out a nice pumpkinseed fillet because it had way too many grubs on it, both black and yellow  .

Don't even worry about 'em,, once you get some batter on them you don't even notice 'em.

All this talk of parasites and grubs is making me hungry. They are harmless to humans.

maybe Im just picky but I eat no fish that have any kind of wierd dots or funky growths on the outside or inside buried in the meat.If I see a DNR person eat them then maybe I`ll consider it.Until then the cats are getting those fish.

Fished fletchers for years and ate many fish with the black grubs in the meat, It just adds a little more flavor.

After cooking they're just another form of protein.

PWood- you beat me to it! Just consider it protein. Cooked well (you're not eating Sushi are you?), this fish is fine. And don't look now, but I'm sure you're ingesting many worse things in your burger that you bought at Meijer......Ever been inside a meat packing plant? You don't want to :yikes:
