Hi all anybody thinking smelt yet, do they still run in the st clair river, I know its early but catching all the dinks has to put that thought in someone elses head to.

Hey Len, As the weather gets warmer you might want to post about smelt in the open water Saint clair section. but to answer, YES This time of year I start thinking of Smelt and river Walleyes. It's funny The wife just said Tim Hortens coffee shop Just started there rollup coffee lid prize thing. She relates that to Smelt season. They start that promo the same time every year.

The last two years have been kinda slow on smelt. in fact last year my best catch was the last week of open season for smelt. Keep an eye open for our yearly smelt outting . Its a great time and some day we'll get a smelt or two.

They arent running yet up here.I have been keeping a pretty close eye at night on the river and nothing is happening yet.A few groups have been up to try but its still way to early.You have quite while in the season to get some.Last April was pretty good someday but in May heavy rain triggured the best of runs in quite a while.When I notice significant runs of smelt I will put some reports up.

here you go...you can get beauties like these in Crystal lake...caught these on 3/4/05...if you need info lemme know

most of these are over 6"...MANY are 8"..deeelicious!!!

Thanks for info. Ed M. I will be looking forward to the smelt outing so like a good time. ever get a group together to go sucker fishing around the bell river, a few freinds and myself do it every year getting ready for the eyes.
