Hey,
What is you best fishing memory. Mine had to be about 3 years ago. We had search for salmon all day and thought we would beable to see them. ell, we never did so we thought there was none there, so we went to this place called boyscout camp and we saw tons of fish. We fished all day and caught nothin. THen this guy we know comes down to the river and hooks a fish and hands it to me. Sure enough i catch it. What an expirence, but the best was being with family and having that feeling your somewhere special. My second would have to be meeting shoeman, Northern outdoors, SFK and JNPcook. That would have to be my second. What is yours?

Mine would prob have to be.....quite a few years back, I was about 7-8ish. Well we just bought this new bass boat and we wanted to go fishing. So we went up to my grandpa's house and got him, and he took us to his favorite lake. Well we where fishing for hours and not catching anything. My grandpa hooks one, so he thinks, and we all think its this monster bass, pike, muskie, we had no idea. Well after fighting it for about 20 min he finally starts to get it to the top of the water and its not a fish. Its a snapper that was almost 3 ft across. At the age I was that thing could have eaten me. My dad was scared out of his mind. My grandpa wanted to keep it, but my dad threatened to jump out if this turtle got in the boat. He kept yelling, "me or the turtle, me or the turtle." In the end the turtle was set free and my dad calmed down. That would be my first because I never laughed so hard on a fishing trip.

My best fishing memory has to be on December 29, 1999. It was on the Big Manistee. I got very sick on our way up to the cabin we were going to stay in. I was sick for 3 days and couldn't make it out fishing. My husband is usually very caring and takes great care of me when I'm sick. Well this particular time he kept trying to get me to go out and fish. I couldn't believe him. He wanted me to go out in the freezing cold when I couldn't even sit up because me head hurt so bad. I even couldn't swallow because my thraot was so swollen. I finally got him to leave and go fishing on the second day and I slept all that day. I felt much better the 3 day (the 29th). So we went down to Tippy to fish down aroungd the bend (lower staircase) anyways we fished for a while and he was getting some. I had a couple break off but hadn't landed anything. When I finally landed a steelie(skipper). My husband asked me if I was happy and I said yes. Then he pulled out a ring and asked me if he could make me happy for the rest of my life. I don't think I will every have a better or memorable fishing experience than that:D

I took my wife and son out fishing for Walleye and Bass with crankbaits and spoons off planer boards. My son had been wanting to catch a big channel cat. Anyway we had a release, he grabbed the rod and when it got the fish near the boat I saw the big cat. I told him wait till you see this one. The fish was getting too close to the prop so I was trying to push the line away from the motor when the line got into my watch band. SNAP! He looked at me with those sad eyes and then another release went off. The big cat while swimming away caught the lure on another line. We ended up landing the 8 lber. and even got our lures back! FISH STORY? No, it is really true.

Mine would definitely have to be July 3rd, 2000. Gomer and i were spinner fishing, and i was catching trout after trout, while he caught zippo, and while he was re-tying, i hooked into something big, that immediately starts running upstream, stripping out drag, which worried me because this was a 16 year old rod, that had a ruined reel (dropped it into sand at the bottom of a hole), but it came off. so, we continued downstream, to this hole that i tell him ALWAYS has steelies in it-i meant during the run-and he starts throwing worms, and hooks into a sucker that jumps close to three feet out o fthe water. he lands it and a few casts later catches a 15 inch rainbow that we both agree will be the fish of the day. he convinces me to put on a worm, so i do, and on my fourth cast i hook into something. at first i thought it was a snag, but it gradually began to move, and i could feel a fish throbing against my line, so i holler to adam(gomer) who tells me im just snagged, and then it started moving, and i got excited, so he came and looked, it started moving downstream, and it surfaced, and i told him it was a skamania, which he didnt believe, it staarted to run downstream, so, being that i only had 6 lb test, with about 30 yards on my spool, i chased after it, and it got me down to 3 or 4 wraps of line on my spool, when i finally turned it and adam eventually tailed it

My most memorable fishing trip was when I was about 5 yrs. old. The first time my dad took me out on a boat.

We left early, like around 5am or so. We stopped at the 7/11 at 10 mile and Jefferson for coffee/etc. My dad bought me 2 cans of Hawaiian Punch, a bag of chips and some Dolly Madison chocolate donuts. He warned me to save the chips and punch for the afternoon.

Well, like I said, first time on a boat. 5 yr. old kid with goodies. I ate everything, and then proceeded to regurgitate it and use it as chum. Don't quite remember the fish, but I do remember that part.

Don and Ralph know of a similar experience. One which I do not remember too much of either! :D

To come up with just one fishing memory that I would consider the best is too hard for me. There are so many good memories. Probably one outing that has had the most effect on my fishing is an ice fishing trip I had made earlier this year. It wasn't a memory of catching a fish, as I caught none that day, nor, as my memory recalls, did anyone else from our group of 11 or 12 catch many if any. And I only could stay for about an hour as I had other plans that day. The memory of that day was my pleasure in meeting Ralf, the Shoeman. But (Ralf, don't get me wrong on this) it wasn't necessarily just in meeting Ralf (although Ralf is a great guy and a good friend) that I remember from this trip. The thing that made this trip memorable was this was the first time I had met anyone in person that I had met through this website. Some of my friends and family (including my wife) thought I was crazy for meeting someone I didn't know. I was a bit cautious at first but as soon as I met Ralf and his friends I felt at ease. After this good experience I went on to meet several others from the site (Byron, Jpollman, Rick Adams, Northern Outdoorsman, Peddlerjac, Phoggcutter, R Jones, Serial Fish Killer, Stelmon, etc. I hope I didn't leave anyone out). I have really enjoyed meeting all these people and have yet to meet someone from this site that I didn't like. I have learned much from watching and listening to these people. I have had the pleasure of catching my largest trout on a fly rod with a fly tied by R Jones. I would like to thank all of those I have met in person from this site for what they have taught me. I also would like to thank Steve for making this all possible. We really have to fish together sometime. Sorry I missed that time out on the Paint this summer. Anyway sorry for rambling on. Hope to meet some more of you.

John

To echo others, there are too many great memories to pick just one. The things that really stick out in my mind are things like the serenity of being an 8yr. old chasing little Brookies for hours and hours on a little stream, learning how to sneak up on them so they wouldnt race off before I could dangle my worm in their lair. Or spending summers day after day fishing down the Intermediate River from Bellaire down to the lake, then rowing down to the access site on the lake for a ride back home.

My best memory would have to be when I was in grade school. My best friend and I used to go down to the local pond and try to catch bass with our hands, the lake pond was real shallow and the fich would come to the shore to feed on the tad poles)...I think we only caught a few over many years. Anyway My pal went for one and fell forward right into a slew of tadpoles. They were in his hair and everywhere else you could think of. I don't think I ever laughed as hard as I did then.

Too many to find just one, but one of the stand outs would have to be an 8 day Alaska trip to Katmai Lodge...Flyfishing only...Fished mostly for trophy rainbows...Caught a 10lb native rainbow (not a steelhead), had one on that was bigger, maybe 12lbs, and landed a 24" Grayling on a flyout...Also caught numbers of Silvers and a few Char...Saw about 20 bears...Overall a great trip...Caught some sockeyes too...This brings back some really good memories...

Too many best days ever, but one that really stands out in my mind from this year was at Stoney Point in June. I had read the report for 5 weeks and they were slayin the walleyes. It was referred to as the Stoney Point message board by one observer. Anyway I do not have a boat anymore.:( But deeply enjoy almost any type of fishing.

I have always wanted to consistently be a good walleye fisherman, and really had been working to coax my boat owning buddies up from Illinois and Indiana to cash in on this chance. Finally weeks later my brother in law was convinced. He hauled up his boat from IN to Grand Rapids in the middle of the night.

I drove the 3 hour trip to Monroe, and we launched, and motored out to 20 fow. He backed off the throttle to idle. My 2 rods had been tied for days as I casted the first silver/blue 1/4 oz. tot and let out a little line before setting the 6 1/2' light action rod with 6 lb test in the rodholder. As I bent over to get my second rod the first one danced and bent over. The action continued for over 3 hours and we were only to run up to 3 flatlines which resulted in many triple headers.

The day got hot fast, sunshine, mayflys, and before we knew it we had kept 9 fish from 17" to 22" and had released another hundred or so. At this point we both agreed to stop the boat and take a break. I finished my cold coffee and attended to my new sunburn. We ate lunch, and lazily picked up our last few keepers and left early with 12 nice walleyes for our effort.:)
This was a great day.
