we went out this morning to check out our buddies spot from yesterday.this is sat. morning.troy got there early and left with about 10 nice jumbo's. we couldn't buy a fish after the wind kicked up.they are in there. we saw 25-50 fish over 8 inches and a couple of master anglers.the dinks were mixed in ,but not many.we even had a 3 pound bass come in for a look and a nice 17 inch walleye.then the wind kicked up and the water got cloudy.we left with only a few which we gave away.i have never seen that many truly large perch in one morning. there is a cluster of shanties by the back basin near a red brick house . that is one of the spots. :fish2: be careful .the ice by genos went bye bye and the rescue airboat was pulling people off today.i heard from the metropark police that 4 quads were still on the ice.good luck

I was out there in the middle of all that wind today. The CG Airboat went "right by" my shanty, in front of Crocker. I watch the boat for a while, they were buzzing around Ginos and Metro, they didn't appear to be doing any kind of "rescue". PS, the ice was still there at 1130am when I left.  I was over a mile out and there were guys out WAY further than me.

If you to this link and look at the photo that was taken after 1 p.m. today very closely it appears that the ice broke off near the pressure crack or a little further out from there. There is still ice on shore but how far out? Its hard to tell from the photo just how far out it goes!

Heard a news flash that the Coast Guard picked up an ice fisherman in LSC that was 3 miles offshore. They picked him up in the helicopter, he had to leave his quad and fishing gear, they estimated $ 4,000. for revovery fee's.

Can anyone CONFIRM this report about the ice breaking off??? I was actually amazed that it didn't bust off while I was out there, but it seemed like the wind actually died down after I got off the ice. The airboat I saw was heading towards Metro and in CLOSE. It also seemed odd to me that the CG didn't wave or hit the loud speaker with some type of warning when they went by me,(50yds away, at the most).
Just confirmed it myself,,, not that I didn't trust you guys, ;) I guess we'll take a look in the morning and see how far out we can get.

The airboat came from 9 mile to rescue 6 guys that blew out around 2.5-3 miles out. Pretty much straight from Gino's. I was walking in when the whole crew of Dnr, cops, fire, ans c.g. arrived at Gino's. They cruised out and grabbed 4 guys then made a second trip for 2 more. Very surprising they let the guys bring back everything but shanties and Atv's. One guy even pulled out a gas auger. They got a few cheers when they arrived. They were using what appeared to be a glass boat w/ fan attached. No helicopter was seen on heard. I watched for bout 20 mins after I arrived on shore to watch it. They had 4 atv's and 1 shanty left sailing away could barely make it out in horizon after 20 mins. 20mph. wind blowing away from shore 3 miles out what morons.

Whb you can go pretty far out still but don't be the next! The ice broke off 2-3 miles out. Also the CG guy who was in rescue told me the chunk was 1.5 miles x 3-4miles long. Lost alot of ice. Are any fish being taken from Gino's?

Ginos isnt doing good for fishing, I didnt catch anything when I went out 2 days ago, the wind is horrible.

does this mean the fish will be more bunched up under the ice now at genos :)

yes ,it usually means the fish will be under the remaining ice cover. they come in shallow to the sand flats to spawn.the water was pretty stirred up. you might wait a couple days for the water to clear.

that sounds cool, I'll try there in a couple days, instead of moving out.

I was out in front of Gino's yesterday afternoon/evening theres enough ice that you can "walk" as far as you want. Some guys were out at least 2 miles. Good news = ice is still there,,, Bad news = the fish still ain't.

I know, what's up with that place or the whole lake in general?Last year Gino's or off the day sail ramp was the place to be.I have not had even a half way desent day out there this year yet.For sure the worst season in my books.Hopefully we will be able to make up for it at last ice.But that better hurry because we are running out of time here soon.
