Now that spring may finally get here I wonder how many of us need to bone up on our seamanship. Regardless of the size of our boats, basic piloting skills need to be maintained. I would like to offer all readers the opportunity to check out the Power Squadron web site below. The GPPS offers more classes than any other Power Squadron in the Midwest. No, you need not be a "Pointer" to attend or for that matter belong. GPPS is a social club dedicated to the education and the advancement of safe boating. There are rendezvous each month from May to Halloween. Some are close by like the one in June at Idle Hour Yacht Club on the south channel. Others take us to Lexington and Kelleys Island.
For those of you outside the Greater Detroit Area, I urge you to contact the United States Power Squadron and check out the educational opportunities and social functions provided by your local chapters. By obtaining your certification for basic seamanship you will reduce your insurance and further reinforce your opinion that 9 out of 10 boaters have no clue as to the rules of the road.
Large and small boaters are welcome. GPPS a division of the United States Power Squadron is a non-profit organization. This is not a solicitation, rather an opportunity to learn, socialize and make for safer boating for you and your family. http://www.usps.org/localusps/grossepointe/ (http://www.usps.org/localusps/grossepointe/)
