View Full Version : banana dyke, take your bike
way too far to walk for a bunch of under sized walleye!!!! biggest one went all of 12.5" every time i got a bite i thought i had a nice perch but it turned out to be the little walleye. looooooonnnnnnggggg walk from the north. i just turned 36 on tuesday, i'm 6'2" 225# and i dig holes for a living, so i'm in pretty good shape. but i'll tel you what, that walk is not worth the fish!! i cant believe the dnr wont let us drive anything out there. came in from the north. siegler rd. 55mins. to get there, no stopping, walking fast. saw a bunch of dinks caught around me , nothin over 6" i was right in front of the inlet in 19 fow walk back was baaaaadddd 65 mins. no stopping. next time i go, if i go, i'm gunna take a mt. bike for sure.i'm not saying theres no fish there but by the time i got there i no longer had a game plan other than get rid of the beer so i don't have to carry them back!!

LMAO,, I do that same thing, eat and drink everything I bring out on the ice, just so the sled is lighter on the way back in.

Don't draw a sled, unless your taking the marsh, or, if there is snow on the road.
We usually just carry all of our gear, takes usually around 40 minutes for us non stop, we walk pretty fast though. Should be heating up after the first big thaw.

When you ride a bike, make sure that you park your vehicle on the parking lot that the wind blows from behind you when you are on your way back. Is was no fun to ride a bike against a 16 mph wind blasting powdered snow on your face.

if you know of the dykes then you should have known about that walk. It's one heck of a walk but you knew that before you started out there. Look at it like this, would you have been naggin about the walk if you would have brought home 5 eyes and a bucket of perch?

I secound that, another one bit the dust:evilsmile Atleast you got some fresh air.
double trouble, you got me LMAO with those two posts. leakypipe,i was warned by many members about the walk. i was not trying to cry about it, more like just givin a heads up to some of the guys that might try it. if your not in good shape you better find another spot, ride a bike, or take a cell phone so you can call the EMS to come get you.i just reread my post and it did sound like i was whinning :gaga: :gaga: i had fun out there yesterday, i must have lost a couple pounds to, but today i had to get up at 4:30A.M. to plow & salt & i can hardly walk i'm so sore.

Try walking all that way and not getting to fish!! Went a couple of years ago, took a friend of mine that had never been ice fishing, heard the bite was hot at the BD and decided to go. Had my buddy pull a small sled with the minnows and the heater, small stuff, and I was pulling the shanty loaded down with everything else. We get almost all the way out walking with the wind cutting across us, wicked cold. Get almost all the way out and my buddy dumps the sled, lost all the water in the minnow bucket. Scooped all the minnows I could save into the bucket and make a dash to get on the ice so I could drill a hole and get some water on the bait. Start to drill my hole and all of a sudden I see rocks and sand start showing up in the slush, you guessed it, I wasn't far enough out and it was only like 1' deep and frozen all the way to the bottom and now my auger is as dull as my personality. We finish the walk out only about 1/2 mile by then. Only 1 other guy out fishing the dyke, ask him if I can borrow his auger to cut a couple of holes and he refuses, mumbles something about his auger being pretty dull already and zips his shanty back up. So back we go. On the way back my friend falls and doesn't tell me, turns out he goes to the doctors the next day and has 3 cracked ribs. So we had a nice 7 mile walk in freezing cold wind and we didn't get to wet a line. I wonder why my friend never returns my calls when I ask him to go fishing?

At least you got out on the ice. Try driving all the way down from Owosso, carrying all your stuff out there on a bike riding through 2" of mud because your " guide " guaranteed monster fish. Getting out there and finding that there is NO ice  :bash: :evilsmile Sorry Kevin, You won't live it down for a while  :smile-mad ...............Patch
