Fishing quietly in kayak, skiff
Little boats are best in shallows

FT. MYERS, Fla -- Dave Loger has no problem explaining why he prefers guiding fishermen around the Tampa Bay area from kayaks rather than in powerboats.

"It's a lot less hassle," he said. "You can reach some great inshore fishing a lot of times in places that bigger boats can't get to. And you don't need a launching ramp to get into the water. All you have to do is find a break in the mangroves on the shoreline.

Love to fish out of my kayaks. Always looking for someone else who has the bug. Whenever, by brother-in-law is around from duty in Iraq we always ultralight from the kayaks anywhere we can. You can get into and out on some skinny water. Just talked to my parents in Fort Myers sure wish I had one of the boats down there right now even if the fishing is slow with the recent cold snap. Darn ice hasn't been good to me this year. Can't wait to explore some steelhead fishing holes with and without the kayaks this spring. Bring on the thaw!
