I was out yesterday afternoon on a mid-michigan lake, wow the snow and slush melted down alot and was aready getting hard when I quit at dark. After the last two snowfalls I only wanted to go to places were you only have to walk 150yds or less. This will open up alot more oppertunities again.

slush this past weekend was terrible, couldn't make it far with 2wd quad and chains. I hate being limited more than anything, don't you? I hope this doesn't leave lakes down here with a double layer. I probably won't be out until close to week's end. Freakin' cold out thar.

From what I seen last night the slush and snow became one and should freeze and become part of the ice. When I left I could almost walk on it. :)

I hope you're right. Everything is telling me to hang it up, (even fishin partners). I feel like we are living on borrowed time here....I'm way to stubborn to hang it up easily at this point though.

There are some lakes a hour west of saginaw there still driving trucks on man. I used to be steelhead fishing by this time, not no more, I will not switch over until I have too.

I sure hope this stuff doesnt affect the quad action for the lakes this week. A 4 wheeler may break through this top layer thus making it difficult to drive. I have a 4x4 honda 300 but Im not certain how it will do in all that layered stuff. Ice conditions make things so much easier and enjoyable while fishing. I like good ice with just a little snow on top.

Scotty 12 hours of sun light and 12 hours of darkness "equinox" sorry I was a little vag. I'm self employed so I get a little extra time except this week we've been super busy, and it's killin me I know them gills are out there just waiting to be thought a lesson. Hang in until the bitter end, I think the big gills are on there way in to feed.

good deal ed, I like the theory. We noticed the redears we've been watching for the past few weeks were extra aggressive this past weekend. Then I realized hey its not the dead of winter anymore its March! heck there may even be some bug hatchin going on for all I know.
I've wore through a fish trap pro tub in 2 seasons of 99% hand pulling, and not a ton of pavement either......i guess i need runners ??? i challenge anyone else to do that :)
Lets give 'em Heck boys for what we have left. fish on.

Might have to check out the otters next time scotty, you fish enough to uprade to one. I have worn two fish traps out, the otter sleds are alot more durable and pull like a sled, not like a suitcase.

Just noticed in 1st full year of trap that it is starting to wear through. I almost always hand pull it and will look into Otter's next time. Do fish 3-4 times a week. But think your beat!

Anyone out this morning in mid/southern Michigan?
Just wondering how much snow accumulated on the ice after last night's snowfall.
I was looking forward to a weekend of easy pulling with the shanty, now I'm thinking there might be some slight resistance...
Either way, ice in mid-march so no complaints from me!

This day was a high point in my fishing career. Fished a Waterloo area lake this afternoon from 3-6:30 and landed about 15 good ones. The first one through the hole went 8 or 8.5 inches, and instead of keeping it, I threw it back down the chute. Same with all the fish, including a couple reds in the 9-inch range. I was looking for a master angler fish for some photos. He didn't show, but it didn't matter. I just wanted to go out and catch some nice fish, and didn't want to bother with cleaning them.
Fish were close to bottom from 3 until about 5:30, then they moved up and starting hammering the spikes on the initial fall. At 6:00, they were done. A little wind, but a great day of fishing, and a nice night to be out there.
Live it while it lasts!
