The dertroit river will start first probably sometime in April this year and really peak in May. The St Clair river will probably start late May. Just watch for the liliacs to bloom.
If the spring is like the past two, the fishing will be slow to heat up.

Im about ready to start. I think the lower detroit will start before that. We steadily caught fish last year from good friday on.
Water temp in the edison discharge. 53.2 last weekend. right in the discharge. They are really catching walleyes at the banana dye, which means they are staging up to enter the river. I'll bet if I went out there Id catch at least one.

I don't doubt that they are there but its getting to them. I would imagine that most of the launches are still iced in. And there will be a considerable amount of ice coming down the river in the next few weeks.

You can get a few starting late April but things pick up mid May around Marine City.

River Rat- I assume you were handlining in the skinny water at the head of stag? Really something to get in tight were your shank is partially above the water line on those tight runs. I undestand the slot limit is gone this year for canadian waters up here. Lets hope the season turns out to be a little more productive than last with the year classes coming of size.
