Was wondering if you can replace the factory hooks with a different size aftermarket hook such as the bleeding reds. Most standard Rapalas have size 8 hooks. Can you replace those with all size 6 hooks or can you replace the rear hook with a 6 and leave the front 2 with # 8's. Same questions with pencil plugs.

Thanks in advance for any help

I just replaced all my rapalas with #8's.
Pencil plugs take a #4, be careful opening the screweye they tend to break. Sometimes it's easier to cut the old treble off and replace using a split ring.

Hotwire,

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find 8's

Hotwire,

Thanks for the ebay suggestion. I ended up getting both 4's and 8's. Are those VMC hooks decent?
Also, you mentioned that you replaced all your rapala hooks with # 8's. Did you replace every size with #8 hooks? Your 7's, 9's 11's, and 13 rapalas

Thanks again for all the help,

Stacked

I replaced #7 & #9 Rapalas with #8 hooks.
I replaced #11 Rapalas with #6 hooks.
Those are the only size raps I use.

I might have used #10 trebles on my #5 Rapalas, I have to check.

You put #4 hooks on size 11 rapalas. That seems like a big hook to put a rapala. Do the hooks start catching each other?

Curt,

Do you know what size hooks come on lokey's, wiley's and other basic musky lures? I'd like to try some red trebble's on my musky baits too.

Your best bet is to take one off and take it to a tackle store and match it up.

I use #4 bronze treble hooks when I make pencil plugs.
And #4/0 bronze treble hooks for musky plugs.

I used a full size chart in the back of Stamina's catalog to compare the sizes.
I would use the red hooks but they cost a lot more.

www.staminainc.com (http://www.staminainc.com) has very good prices for fishing components.
You can order online or fill out the catalog request at there wesite and they will send you one.

Gander Mountain usually has a few choices also for hooks but very limited.
