its gotta be the northerners short stopping all the flight... i mean, migratory fish. that explains it! we need to get them to lower their bag limits and shorten their seasons! :bash:  :cwm27:

im sorry, i realise that mainly only the duck hunters round here might get this, but thats enough for me. tight lines everyone. :evilsmile

Actualy I talked to a former bioligist this weekend. His theory is desease has killed off many perch.Trawls taken last fall indicated that a similar fungus/desease that struck bass and musky has spread to perch. If anyone has caught perch with black dot looking fungus with soft red mushy meat, contact your local dnr office about this please. This is second info but I follow up with any confirmations if I can get them.

dang it, and i was ready to start blaming robo's for suckin em all in as well...

in all honesty though, i caught only 3 fish w/ the black fea dot thing... but then again i only kept about 20 perch this season. :(

With all respect to your biologist friend, I think the bad fishing this winter has to do with a bad cycle. The big perch that were at Genos last year were not really there this year, not seeing as many big perch in the holes in clear water like we did last year, and the fact that I have literally caught at least 1,100 perch in my last 3 trips, with only 54 being keepers. Now, I'll grant you, that canals produce a lot of small fish, but I have never seen this many fish in the canals, you catch dinks one after another no matter what hole you fish...To me, this means one thing: there were some excellent spawns in past few years and the future looks bright, at least in my eyes...

We also need to remember how many nice fish we harvested last year thru the ice and all summer/fall. Those Geno's "jalopies" were some of the biggest I have ever seen, and I catch some beauties during the summer at Harsen's...

I'm no biologist, all I can provide is my theory, as it has been one of my worst years since I began ice fishing back in 1986...1,100+ fish in three trips told me a lot about the future of this lake. And I certainly hope I'm right... ;)

One of my theory's is Musky, Pike, and Smallmouths. LSC is a world class fishery for all of these species, and how many people keep these fish for the table. Just my two cents, I just think the predator population has alot to do with it.

Kind of makes one wonder where are all jumbos and if lets say a high pecentage has been harvested, not all but a high number anyway. How good of a spawn will we have this year?

I am going say this just like others have said. Its just a bad year due to the natural cycle of fish and harvesting for table fare. In another year or 2 we will once again be catching the jumbos one after another filling buckets every trip out. Then their will be a lull again in another 4-5 years because this years spawn class will not be that good.

hmmmm, Neil duffy, the fishing may be bad in LSC but not every where else, maybe not as good as last year but still good just the same. I limit out on gills 75% of the time and get enough for a meal the rest of the times this year. Had my worst day of the year on wensday only 8 gave them to someone on the ice so they could have a meal with the few they had :)

Fact: there are about 11,000 lakes in the state of Michigan.

Yes that's true...But shoot me a PM on how many of those lakes within an hour of my home (S. Lyon) has the capability to produce what LSC is capable of producing size wise, I can catch all the big gills I want at a couple of different places, but show me some jumbo perch on inland lakes (legally), and I will publicly apologize to you in this forum...

I know that there were alot of very nice size jumbos caught out of LSC last year by ice anglers but I find it very hard to believe that we caught all of them.Bad cycle or desease,Musky and bass predation, whatever reason its definately a very bad year.I have a question though,If musky and bass have wiped out the jumbos then why not all the dinks? Is there any net harvesting done on LSC?That would account posibly for the lack of them now.
