When i first started jigging the river, i would use a 3/4 oz. jig head, just so i could feel the bottom. After doing it a while, i went down in size, because i heard it was easier for an Eye to inhail the bait. But than i was watching a show that featured my GOD of Walleye fishing Al Linder, and he said even when fishing in small inland lakes smaller isnt nessasarley better. When the big jig head in bounced off the bottom, it makes more noise and vibration than a smaller jig. I thought that made alot of sense, for those days that either the fish are scattered, or the water is cloudy. The bigger jig would call them in, so to speak. What do you guys think of Al Linders theory, Hes pretty much the man for all FRESH WATER SPECICS. :yikes:

Ah, what the heck does he know? ;) :p I'm not a very scientific fisherman when it comes to fishing logs and such, but I have to believe my hook-up ratio is better with the lighter jigs. I will only use jigs in fairly clean water so I'm pretty sure the fish are seeing my bait rather than sensing the vibration. When the water gets too stained it's time to pull out the hand-line and wave those baits in their face. The man is a great fisherman for sure but I can't say that I necessarily agree with him on this one. At least in the Detroit River where I fish.

I use from 1/2oz to 1oz depends on depth and current I'm in. I also attach rattles for extra noise.
