Another Kicker Motor question

My friend has an 18 ft tracker with a 90 hp motor. He would like to get a 9.9 kicker for it, but would like to hear some reviews as far as brands, and 2 stroke or 4 stroke... Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Can speak from experience, I also have a Tracker Targa 18ft, I have a 9.9 HP 4 Stroke Mercury outboard for a kicker, it was hard to get it down to speed to troll for walleye, especially when I was the only one in the boat..might be something to consider, not sure if Yamaha or Honda's would be able to get down further, they might though..I switched over the a 60's JOhnson Sea Horse 2 Stroke, was able to get speed down as low as I wanted and up to 4-5MPH of the GPS.

I've used my 9.9 Force on a friends 18' Targa. Amazing what a little prop pitch "adjustment" with a hammer can do for it!

Bgoodenow - if he wants to try one let me know...mines just hanging in the garage. At least then he will know if he wants to go that route.

Just something to think about. It wont be long before 2 strokes are outlawed on many inland lakes. I think its 2010 for the end of manufacture of 2 strokes, Califorinia :dizzy: (can't buy one there after 2006) and Nevada have already started. I gotta think it would be decades on LSC, but who knows???

I have a 9.9 Merc 4-stroke. Trolls so slow you don't even know its running. Got it on an 18ft Targa.

I have a Merc, 15HP, Four Stroke, kicker. I am very happy with it. I have to check the pee stream once in awhile to make sure it is running. It runs silent at low trolling speeds and I am pushing a fairly hvy boat.

what is the slowest you were able to get down to with your 9.9 4stroke? with only you in the boat.... just curious.....
