Took the family out of Sterling State Park
Got a dozen only. Not much size.
Is it time for me to put the boat away for the year? Or is there a good walleye run yet to come?

We took 80 big perch yesterday near Colchester, launching from Lake Erie Metropark. The fishing there will only get better as the fall progresses. The bad news is that it is a 15 mile boat ride from the Metropark, and in Canadian waters. The good fishing is one mile south of the Colchester harbor; it's a lot easier to launch in Colchester but we didn't want to fight traffic on the Ambassador Bridge.

Homer,

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, But hope to find something a little
closer and in Michigan waters. Although, you sure make it tempting. ANy co ordinates, or specific directions.

I went out last Friday and couldnt handle the winds.. Stayed in the river and picked up a couple of walleye

If you're launching at Lake Erie metropark, swing south of Celeron Island and head due east across the Detroit River mouth. Once you cross the river, continue heading east, following the shoreline. Colchester is the obvious point of land that you will see on the horizon sticking out into the lake. By my estimate, it's about a seven mile run across the river mouth, and then another nine miles to Colchester.

If the bridge clears, it's easy to drive there. Go over the bridge, and take a left on Sandwich St. which will take you south along the river. Strictly Fishing bait shop is on the left hand side of Sandwich a few blocks south of the bridge, and is an excellent source of up-to-date reports (they'll also draw you a map better than I can describe here). Continue south along the river through Lasalle and Amherstburg until the main road turns to the east. Go east a few miles until you see the Colchester:turn right sign (aka Erie Rd. or Regional Road 20). This takes you downtown, and the harbor is one or two blocks to the right of the main road.

Fishing is one mile south of the harbor. There is a red marker buoy out there, and we fish just southwest of it. You can either fish by the pack of boats, or use your depth finder to look for big mounds coming off the bottom. These mounds can either be rock piles or perch, both are worth anchoring over. Prepare to pick up some accidental huge smallmouths while you're fishing. There are often times as many people fishing for bass (drifting with tubes)as there are perch fishermen.
